Let Go ranks first in the seven-album sales table published by BestSellingAlbums.org: the site estimates 13,370,277 sales for the 2002 album. The table is a secondary database estimate, not an audited global count, and its figures should not be confused with U.S. certification levels or verified equivalent-album units.
Avril Lavigne albums ranked by the reported estimates
The figures below are those shown in BestSellingAlbums.org’s table “AVRIL LAVIGNE albums ranked by sales,” on a page marked updated March 21, 2025. They are presented as that source’s estimates, not as live counts or independently verified totals.
| Rank | Album | Release year | Reported estimate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Let Go | 2002 | 13,370,277 |
| 2 | Under My Skin | 2004 | 5,953,654 |
| 3 | The Best Damn Thing | 2007 | 4,786,260 |
| 4 | Goodbye Lullaby | 2011 | 930,242 |
| 5 | Avril Lavigne | 2013 | 732,915 |
| 6 | Head Above Water | 2019 | 165,016 |
| 7 | Greatest Hits | 2024 | 60,000 |
What the ranking shows
Let Go leads the displayed list by a wide margin. The second-place estimate for Under My Skin is less than half of the first-place figure, while The Best Damn Thing is third. After those three, the estimates fall below one million; the table’s last three entries are substantially lower than its top tier.
The list contains seven entries and includes Greatest Hits, a compilation. It should therefore be read as the source’s displayed ranking, not as a demonstrated complete ranking of every studio album or every release in Lavigne’s discography.

How to interpret the figures
BestSellingAlbums.org also says Lavigne has sold over 25.9 million albums in aggregate and describes Let Go as her best-selling album, with over 13.3 million copies. The table’s displayed entries do not add up to that rounded career-wide claim. The source does not provide enough methodological detail to reconcile the figures, so the album estimates should not be treated as a complete accounting of her career sales.
- The page does not define the table’s geographic aggregation or sales methodology.
- It does not establish that the figures are audited, or that they use equivalent-album units.
- Sales estimates, streaming totals, shipments, and certification awards are different measures; they should not be combined as though they were interchangeable.
What U.S. certifications add—and what they do not
The Recording Industry Association of America’s March 2018 awards report lists Let Go and The Best Damn Thing in its multi-platinum album section, and Avril Lavigne and Goodbye Lullaby in its gold album section. The extracted report rows do not show precise multipliers, so they support those category descriptions as of that report, not a specific current certification level.
Rank #2
A City of Los Angeles document dated May 5, 2022 describes Let Go as septuple-platinum, Under My Skin as triple-platinum, and The Best Damn Thing as double-platinum. The description for The Best Damn Thing differs from the category shown in the RIAA’s March 2018 report. Without a current direct RIAA record to resolve the discrepancy, these descriptions should remain attributed to their respective documents rather than treated as a single verified certification history.
Certifications are a U.S.-specific reference point, not a substitute for a worldwide sales estimate. The same 2022 Los Angeles document makes a broader biographical claim that Lavigne had sold 40 million albums worldwide and 12.5 million units in the U.S.; those artist-level figures are dated claims, not sales totals for any one album.
