The Beatles’ original Let It Be film arrived on Disney+ on May 8, 2024. The film is the 1970 documentary directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg; Disney+’s Czech Republic catalog lists the restored title at 1 hour 28 minutes. Availability can vary by country, so check your local Disney+ catalog.
When did Let It Be come to Disney+?
The restored film launched exclusively on Disney+ on May 8, 2024, according to The Beatles’ announcement dated April 16, 2024. The announcement described this as the film’s first availability in more than 50 years. The original documentary was released in 1970.
Disney+’s Czech Republic listing identifies the restored film as a 2024 title and gives its runtime as 1 hour 28 minutes. That listing confirms the details for that market; it does not establish current availability in every country. Search your local Disney+ catalog to see whether it is available where you live.
Why do some viewers call the film depressing?
That description reflects the film’s reception in the shadow of The Beatles’ breakup, rather than an objective verdict on what every viewer will feel. Director Michael Lindsay-Hogg said audiences saw the film after the band had broken up, and that this “very much darkened the perception of the film.” His point was that viewers brought the sadness of the breakup to a movie showing the group together.

Peter Jackson, who later directed Get Back and worked with the restoration team, has offered a different way to approach the film: see it alongside the series, which supplies context for the events on screen.
What does the restored film show that Get Back does not?
Let It Be is not simply another cut of Get Back. The original film includes material absent from the later series, including studio work and the Beatles’ January 1969 performance on the Apple Corps rooftop, with Billy Preston joining them. The official release announcement highlights those differences.
The two works also offer different viewing experiences: Let It Be is the original feature-length film, while Get Back is a three-part docuseries released on Disney+ in 2021. Jackson described them as complementary: “The two projects support and enhance each other: ‘Let It Be’ is the climax of ‘Get Back,’ while ‘Get Back’ provides a vital missing context for ‘Let It Be.’” That is Jackson’s interpretation, not a claim that the series replaces the film.
How was the 2024 version restored?
Apple Corps asked Peter Jackson’s Park Road Post Production team to restore the film from its original 16mm negative, with Lindsay-Hogg’s support. The sound was remastered using MAL de-mix technology, the same technology the official announcement says was applied to Get Back. These details come from The Beatles’ release announcement.
