The premise is less a straightforward whodunit than a story about the investigator’s motives and vulnerabilities. Aggie’s grief shapes her pursuit, while her decision to turn another person’s trauma into material raises questions about authorship, voyeurism and moral projection. The series’ teaser captures its dark pull: “We are, all of us… drawn to monsters. We flirt with death to prove we’re truly alive.”
Is it a limited series, and how many episodes are there?
The Beast in Me is a limited series with eight episodes. Netflix released all eight on November 13, 2025, so the season is available to watch as a complete story rather than arriving weekly.

Who made the series?
Gabe Rotter created and wrote the series and is an executive producer. Howard Gordon is showrunner and an executive producer; his previous credits include Homeland, 24 and The X-Files. Danes is also an executive producer, and 20th Television is the studio. What book inspired The Beast in Me?
Claire Danes said she kept returning to Janet Malcolm’s The Journalist and the Murderer while working on the series. It is a relevant companion read for the show’s interest in the uneasy relationship between a writer and the person who becomes a subject—not evidence that the series adapts Malcolm’s book or a real case.
