What was The Amateur’s opening weekend?
Rotten Tomatoes Editorial’s April 2025 recap estimated a $15 million North American opening and $17.2 million internationally, for a $32.2 million global start. That contemporaneous opening estimate measures the first weekend, not the film’s eventual worldwide total. Rotten Tomatoes Editorial’s opening-weekend recap called the debut modest relative to the reported $60 million production budget.
For a different domestic measure, The Numbers lists an opening weekend of $14,802,849 and a $40,759,635 domestic total. Its opening figure is close to the rounded $15 million North American estimate; the two sources present their figures at different levels of precision. The Numbers records a wide domestic release on April 11, 2025, with international release dates beginning April 9. The Numbers’ film page also lists a $60 million production budget. That budget is not a break-even figure: the available figures do not establish marketing and distribution costs or the portion of ticket sales retained by theaters.

In that snapshot, the audience aggregate was higher than the critics’ aggregate. Rotten Tomatoes scores can change as ratings and reviews are added, so these figures should be read with their access date and counts—not as results from opening-weekend polling. Rotten Tomatoes’ film page displays the ratings and summaries.
The audience summary describes the film as a familiar action premise lifted by its cast and energy; the critics’ consensus calls Rami Malek a compellingly unconventional action lead while finding the story formulaic. These are Rotten Tomatoes’ aggregate summaries, not quotations from a named audience member or reviewer. The figures available here do not establish a CinemaScore or PostTrak result.
