That is a snapshot of the live counter—not evidence that the petition is gaining thousands of signatures per day. The series remains described as canceled, and renewed fan activity has not been accompanied by a confirmed renewal.
How many signatures does the petition have?
The Change.org petition displayed 85,763 verified signatures at access on October 8, 2026. Because the counter is live, it may change. The page does not provide a daily history that would establish a current rate of growth, so the title’s claim that it is adding thousands a day cannot be verified from that figure alone.

The historical figures also come from separate reports, not a single reconciled count series:
- BGR reported on August 22, 2024 that the petition had gained around 700 signatures in its first 24 hours and had surpassed 41,800 by publication.
- ComingSoon reported nearly 20,000 signatures on August 23, 2024. The sources do not reconcile the difference between these reported totals, so they should not be treated as points on a precise growth curve.
Change.org’s “verified signatures” label describes the counter; it does not establish the identity or representativeness of signers, or show what all Star Wars fans think.

What are supporters asking Disney and Lucasfilm to do?
The petition asks Disney and Lucasfilm to bring back The Acolyte for another season. Change.org lists The Walt Disney Company, Lucasfilm and Disney+ as decision makers. The campaign argues that the show introduced new characters and stories and helped some viewers feel represented in the franchise. Those are supporters’ reasons for signing, not independently measured views of the wider fandom.
The petition says: “The Acolyte opened the doors for so many Star Wars fans, new and old, to feel seen. To feel welcomed and accepted by an IP and fandom that hadn’t previously been so for anyone who didn’t check off certain boxes.” BGR also quoted individual supporters who praised the series’ original material, characters and take on Star Wars lore; those comments should be understood as their personal views, not a poll of viewers.

Why did the petition gain attention again in 2026?
The Acolyte was canceled after its first season in August 2024, according to ComingSoon, which reported that the petition launched on August 20. The outlet said the effect of the campaign on the studio’s decision was uncertain. It cited The Hollywood Reporter’s sourced reporting that low audience ratings played an important role in the nonrenewal; that reporting is not an official Lucasfilm explanation.
In April 2026, GamesRadar reported that the canceled series had briefly appeared in Disney+’s top 10, prompting renewed online calls to reverse the decision. The article suggested autoplay after episodes of Maul – Shadow Lord might have helped bring viewers to the show, but that was a proposed explanation rather than confirmed platform data. A brief chart appearance and a burst of online interest do not establish that Disney or Lucasfilm has changed course.

Has season two been announced?
No confirmed renewal is reported in the cited 2026 coverage. In June 2026, GamesRadar quoted showrunner Leslye Headland discussing fan encounters and ideas the team had wanted to explore, including connections to sequel-era lore. Those remarks concern an unrealized second season, not a project announced as being in development.
Headland told Empire, as quoted by GamesRadar: “As more people discover it, I think people may want to see some form of the story come back.” It is a comment about possible future interest, not a statement that a new season is coming.
