The finale also includes a separate Yoda cameo, but the two appearances do different work in the story.
Who is the mysterious man in the cave?
It is Darth Plagueis. StarWars.com’s official finale interview identifies him directly and says he is lurking in the shadows. The reveal was kept secret from Amandla Stenberg, who plays Osha and Mae; she said she first saw it when the finale aired. That secrecy speaks to how tightly the cameo was guarded, not to any particular theory about Plagueis’s plans.
Why does Darth Plagueis matter?
StarWars.com’s Databank entry describes Plagueis as a Muun Sith Lord and the former mentor and Master of Darth Sidious, also known as Sheev Palpatine. It places him at work against the Jedi during the High Republic era. His presence therefore links the series’ events to the wider history of the Sith.
That background makes the cave scene ominous, but it does not explain what Plagueis is doing there or what he intends to do next. The scene leaves the details open.

What does the cave scene reveal—and what remains a theory?
Showrunner Leslye Headland said Plagueis appeared in every version of the finale. She considered ending the episode on him rather than Yoda, but felt that would overshadow Osha’s triumph as she joins forces with the Stranger. As Headland put it, “You want to feel Osha’s triumph. You want to feel her joining forces with The Stranger. Plagueis stepped on [that moment].” Jedi News reported her comments to IndieWire.
Headland characterized the ending as bittersweet and foreboding: viewers know Plagueis is present and understand the significance of the Sith lineage. His appearance can be read as a warning about danger ahead for Osha and Qimir, but it does not establish a specific future outcome.

The finale gives the two cameos distinct identities, placements, and narrative functions. Director Hanelle Culpepper discussed the Yoda scene and said the identity of the cave figure was withheld from her until late in production. Headland’s explanation of the ending clarifies why the reveals appear where they do.
