The 7 best anime coming to Netflix and Crunchyroll this October are led by Netflix’s weekly STEEL BALL RUN JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, followed by Blue Box Season 2, The Ramparts of Ice Season 2, Firefly Wedding, and three Crunchyroll titles. This October means October 2026, and STEEL BALL RUN begins September 25 rather than premiering in October.
Netflix and Crunchyroll have announced a particularly varied month: sports romance, romantic suspense, mystery, fantasy isekai, science fiction, and a major JoJo adaptation. The list below separates genuine October premieres from a high-profile weekly series that continues airing during October, while preserving the release-window and territory limits in the official announcements.
Key takeaways
- STEEL BALL RUN JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure begins weekly on Netflix on September 25, 2026, with 11 episodes, making it an October watch rather than an October premiere.
- Blue Box Season 2 and The Ramparts of Ice Season 2 are Netflix titles officially announced for October 2026, although exact U.S. dates are not provided in the cited announcements.
- Crunchyroll’s announced October 2026 slate includes Firefly Wedding, The Detective Is Already Dead Season 2, The World’s Finest Assassin Season 2, and Reborn as a Space Mercenary.
- The Detective Is Already Dead Season 2 was postponed from July to October 2026, so October is a revised release window rather than its original schedule.
- Firefly Wedding is the clearest choice for romance mixed with danger, while Reborn as a Space Mercenary provides the list’s most distinct science-fiction premise.
The 7 best anime coming to Netflix and Crunchyroll this October are led by Netflix’s weekly STEEL BALL RUN JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, followed by Blue Box Season 2, The Ramparts of Ice Season 2, Firefly Wedding, and three Crunchyroll returns or debuts. The list covers October 2026 announcements, with exact dates and territories included only where officially confirmed.
“Coming this October” needs one important qualification: STEEL BALL RUN starts on September 25, 2026, so it is not an October premiere. It remains one of the month’s most significant weekly anime watches because new episodes continue into October.

How were the seven anime ranked?
The ranking weighs five practical questions: how firmly the release is scheduled, whether newcomers can understand the premise, how different the concept is from the other picks, whether the title is aimed mainly at returning viewers, and whether an official source manga offers a useful follow-up. The ranking is editorial; it is not based on invented review scores, popularity data, or episode ratings.

1. Why is STEEL BALL RUN JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure the biggest October watch?
STEEL BALL RUN JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure ranks first because Netflix has given it a clear weekly schedule, a major franchise connection, and an unusually strong source-material hook. Netflix’s official Anime Expo announcement says the adaptation begins streaming weekly on September 25, 2026, and contains 11 episodes; the announcement describes the story as centering on the first horseback race across North America. Netflix’s Anime Expo 2026 announcement confirms the schedule and episode total.
The September start date means the anime should not be described as an October premiere. The series belongs on an October watch list because its weekly rollout continues through the month, giving viewers a recurring reason to return rather than a single October launch day.
The adaptation is based on Hirohiko Araki’s JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure manga. Newcomers who want to experience the story as a weekly event can start with Netflix, while readers who prefer the source can begin with JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Part 7—Steel Ball Run, Vol. 1. VIZ lists the English-language physical volume as a 394-page book released May 27, 2025, and provides an Amazon retailer option on its product page. The manga is the source story, not a physical copy of the Netflix anime.

Choose it if: you want the month’s clearest weekly anime event, already follow the JoJo franchise, or like reading the manga alongside an adaptation.
2. What makes Blue Box Season 2 the best Netflix sports romance?
Blue Box Season 2 is the clearest Netflix October choice for viewers who want romance shaped by athletic ambition instead of a battle-focused premise. Netflix lists the second season for October 2026 and identifies the source manga as Ao no Hako by Kouji Miura, with Daisuke Sako as director. Netflix’s 2026 anime announcement confirms the October window and production details.
The story follows Taiki Inomata, a badminton player who trains alongside his crush, Chinatsu Kano, a basketball player. Season 2 continues the relationship while both characters pursue their sports goals, so the central appeal is the tension between personal feelings, daily training, and long-term ambition.

Netflix has confirmed the month but not an exact U.S. premiere day in the cited announcement. Readers should therefore treat “October 2026” as the reliable release window rather than assume a specific weekly schedule or episode count.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsChoose it if: you want a gradual relationship story, sports competition, and emotional development that progresses alongside the characters’ athletic goals.
3. What is confirmed about The Ramparts of Ice Season 2?
The Ramparts of Ice Season 2 is confirmed for an October 2026 premiere on Netflix, making it one of the platform’s more clearly scheduled anime sequels for the month. Netflix’s Anime Expo update confirms the title, platform, and October timing. The official Netflix announcement is the basis for the release-window claim.
The available announcement does not provide enough information to responsibly summarize the season’s plot, identify its characters, state its genre in detail, give an episode count, or promise a particular viewing format. That limited information is itself useful: viewers should regard this as a confirmed Netflix return, but not infer a detailed October schedule from the announcement.
Choose it if: you are already interested in the series or want to track Netflix’s confirmed October sequels without relying on unverified calendar listings.
4. Why should romance fans watch Firefly Wedding?
Firefly Wedding is Crunchyroll’s strongest romance-plus-danger recommendation because its central setup is a contract marriage between two people who should never have met. Crunchyroll’s announcement lists the anime for October 2026 across North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, the CIS, and the Indian Subcontinent. Crunchyroll’s official announcement supplies the release window and territory list.
Crunchyroll attributes the following synopsis to Comikey: “The daughter of an upstanding family, and an assassin… A romantic suspense about the contract marriage between two who should never have crossed paths!” The wording makes the intended hook unusually easy to understand: a protected family background collides with an assassin’s dangerous world, and the relationship begins under an agreement rather than ordinary courtship.

The announcement confirms October and the listed regions, but it does not establish an exact U.S. release day, episode count, or dub schedule. Availability should also be checked by territory when the series launches; the announcement does not support calling the title universally available worldwide.
Choose it if: you want a romance with immediate stakes, a suspense framework, and a premise that is separate from the sports and reincarnation stories elsewhere on this list.

The Detective Is Already Dead Season 2 was postponed from July to October 2026 because of production circumstances, according to Crunchyroll’s report citing the anime’s official account. The October window is therefore a revised schedule, not the title’s original release plan. Crunchyroll’s delay announcement records the change.
The first season’s setup follows Kimihiko, who becomes involved with the silver-haired detective Siesta after a hijacking. After Siesta’s death, a new case reopens old wounds connected to murder and conspiracy. That history makes Season 2 a better recommendation for returning viewers than for someone seeking the cleanest possible entry point.
Crunchyroll confirms the October 2026 postponement but does not provide an exact U.S. date in the cited report. Viewers should not treat the month as proof of a particular broadcast day or assume that a new episode schedule has already been published.
Choose it if: you watched Season 1 and want the continuation of Kimihiko’s mystery-driven story, especially after the delay.

6. Is The World’s Finest Assassin Season 2 a good October isekai?
The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat Season 2 is the most direct pick for viewers who prefer strategic isekai and fantasy-assassin stories. Crunchyroll’s CCXP Mexico announcement lists Season 2 for October 2026 and continues the premise of an assassin reincarnated in another world as an aristocrat. Crunchyroll’s announcement confirms the month and platform.

The available announcement does not establish an exact U.S. release date or episode count. The safest expectation is a continuation of the first season’s reincarnation-and-fantasy-assassin setup, not a promised schedule or specific adaptation detail beyond what Crunchyroll announced.
Choose it if: you want a returning fantasy protagonist, calculated action, and an isekai premise built around an assassin rather than a conventional heroic adventurer.
7. Why is Reborn as a Space Mercenary the list’s science-fiction alternative?
Reborn as a Space Mercenary: I Woke Up Piloting the Strongest Starship! gives the October recommendations a clear science-fiction option. Crunchyroll lists the series for October 2026 in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and the CIS. Crunchyroll’s CCXP Mexico announcement confirms the release window and those territories.
Crunchyroll attributes the premise to Seven Seas: “When Satou Takahiro is swept away from his ordinary life into the world of his favorite video game, a universe of space battles, interstellar colonies, and danger in the vastness of outer space awaits.” The setup combines a transported protagonist, game-world logic, starship action, and interstellar settings, making the title substantially different from the list’s romances, mysteries, fantasy stories, and JoJo franchise adventure.
The announcement confirms an October window and regional availability but does not provide an exact U.S. release day, episode total, or dub schedule. As with the other Crunchyroll titles, the named territories should not be expanded into an unsupported worldwide-availability claim.
Choose it if: you want space battles and colonies rather than another school romance, detective sequel, or medieval-fantasy isekai.

What should you know before planning an October anime watchlist?
Release windows are not the same as exact release dates. The cited announcements confirm October 2026 for six titles, but they do not all publish a U.S. day, episode count, or broadcast schedule. STEEL BALL RUN is the exception in the supplied research: Netflix specifies a September 25 weekly start and 11 total episodes.
Territories are also not interchangeable. The Netflix announcements support the U.S. framing used here, while Crunchyroll’s announcements explicitly list regions for individual titles. North America is included for the Crunchyroll titles listed in this article, but the evidence does not justify promising identical availability in every country.
Netflix says more than half of its members watch anime, but Netflix does not provide a precise percentage in the cited 2026 slate announcement. That company statement indicates the scale of Netflix’s anime audience without proving that any one of these seven titles will be the most watched.
