“Choice,” the seventh episode of The Acolyte, returns to Brendok to show the night of the coven’s destruction from the Jedi’s point of view. The episode revisits the events of “Destiny,” but adds context rather than simply replacing what viewers saw before: fear, partial knowledge and competing interpretations shape the tragedy.
Spoilers for “Destiny” (Season 1, Episode 3) and setup for “Choice” (Episode 7).

1. The episode returns to Brendok from the Jedi’s perspective
Master Indara, her Padawan Torbin, Wookiee Jedi Master Kelnacca and Jedi Knight Sol are on Brendok searching for a vergence in the Force. Their investigation brings them into contact with Osha and Mae, their coven and the events surrounding the Ascension ceremony.
2. “Destiny” showed the same night from Osha and Mae’s side
Set 16 years earlier, “Destiny” followed the twins within Mother Aniseya’s coven as the Jedi arrived during the Ascension ceremony. The coven told the girls to fail the Jedi’s test of their Force abilities. Osha answered truthfully instead, passed, and was invited to join the Jedi Order. Mae, afraid of losing her sister, locked Osha in their room and started a fire.

“Choice” revisits the night after viewers have seen more of the sisters’ later lives. Its Rashomon-like structure—an homage to Akira Kurosawa’s film, as StarWars.com’s episode explainer describes it—puts overlapping events and conflicting perspectives side by side. The new account invites reconsideration, not a simple declaration that one earlier version was false.
3. The twins’ choices—and their bond—are at the heart of the conflict
Osha wants a future beyond the coven; Mae fears separation from her twin. The official explainer also says the twins are biologically the same person expressed through two separate bodies, a discovery that contributes to the escalating events. Their decisions matter, but so do the adults’ assumptions about what those decisions mean.

4. Sol’s fear turns a misunderstanding into catastrophe
Sol believes the witches are harming the children and misreads Mother Aniseya’s protective act. His judgment helps set the tragedy in motion and burdens him for the next 16 years. The episode’s focus is not only what happened, but how fear and incomplete understanding led people on both sides to interpret events as threats.
Sol captures that fear when he says, “Your mind is their battlefield.” Mother Aniseya, meanwhile, describes the coven’s Ascension this way: “Ascension is about walking through fear. It is about sacrificing a part of yourself.” Her explanation contrasts with Mae’s later recollection of the words, underscoring how memory and perspective can diverge.

5. “Choice” reframes the tragedy without making it simple
The episode guide says Mae sets the blaze, a battle pits Jedi against Jedi, Torbin is disfigured, and most of the coven—including Aniseya—dies. The Jedi leave Brendok with a secret. These outcomes connect the disaster to decisions made by several characters, rather than reducing it to one person’s action.
The title points both to Osha’s decision to leave the coven and to the consequential choices Sol makes. As the official “Choice” guide and StarWars.com’s explainer frame it, learning more complicates questions of truth and justice instead of closing them.
