Yoriichi Tsugikuni is the strongest human Demon Slayer in Kimetsu no Yaiba, with a lead no other slayer approaches. Tanjiro Kamado’s final human battle state ranks second, while Gyomei Himejima is the strongest member of the modern Corps by the official description of him. This spoiler-inclusive ranking compares slayers at their strongest human canonical states—not demonized forms—and is an editorial judgment, not an official franchise list.
How this Demon Slayer power ranking works
The ranking weighs peak manga feats, the strength of an opponent a character fought or defeated, and abilities that change what a slayer can do: the Demon Slayer Mark, a red Nichirin blade, Transparent World, and Selfless State. It also considers defense, speed, endurance, injury or poison, and whether a result came from a solo fight or teamwork. Those factors do not produce a perfect numerical score: circumstances and matchups matter, and a useful contribution to a team does not automatically prove superiority in a one-on-one fight.
Each character is judged at their strongest human canonical state. That means Michikatsu Tsugikuni is not ranked as Kokushibo, and demonized versions are outside the list. It also means an unmarked fighter can rank highly on the strength of what they accomplished without endgame awakenings.
Who are the 20 strongest Demon Slayers?
1. Yoriichi Tsugikuni
Yoriichi is the historical outlier: he created Sun Breathing, accessed both Transparent World and Selfless State, and nearly killed Muzan by himself. In his human prime, he also dominated the strongest Upper Rank with ease. No other slayer matches that combination of mastery and individual performance.

2. Tanjiro Kamado (final human state)
At the end of the battle against Muzan, human Tanjiro brings together Sun Breathing, the Mark, Transparent World, Selfless State, and a red Nichirin blade. His brief exchanges with Muzan are enough to place him above every contemporary Hashira, but they do not amount to a clean solo victory: exhaustion and injuries limit what he can sustain.
3. Gyomei Himejima
Gyomei is the strongest current-era Hashira. The official Infinity Castle character page calls him “the strongest of the Demon Slayer Corps amongst corps members.” His marked, awakened fight against Kokushibo, including his access to Transparent World, is the modern Corps’ most formidable Hashira showing.
4. Sanemi Shinazugawa
Sanemi’s marked battle against Kokushibo makes his case. He endures a punishing fight, adapts under pressure, and uses his Marechi blood as an additional weapon. That performance puts him just below Gyomei among the current Hashira.
5. Giyu Tomioka
Giyu’s Mark, Water Breathing defense, and Dead Calm technique let him hold his own in a prolonged fight with Akaza alongside marked Tanjiro. His composure and defensive consistency make him one of the strongest contemporary Hashira, though that team battle is not evidence of a solo win over Akaza.
6. Obanai Iguro
Obanai’s strongest evidence comes late in the fight against Muzan: he awakens the Mark, produces a red blade, and benefits from the perception and coordination he shares with Kaburamaru. His extended contribution to that battle raises him above most Hashira, even though his earlier record offers fewer opportunities to judge him in a major solo fight.
7. Muichiro Tokito
Muichiro is a prodigy who awakens the Mark and defeats Upper Rank Five Gyokko alone. In the battle against Kokushibo, he later contributes a red blade and helps create a decisive opening. Those achievements are exceptional, although his overall record and endurance in the latter fight place him below the more consistently effective Hashira above him.
8. Kyojuro Rengoku
Rengoku’s unmarked stand against Upper Rank Three Akaza is one of the clearest demonstrations of how formidable a Hashira can be without endgame awakenings. He protects the train’s passengers and holds Akaza near daylight, but does not defeat him. The feat supports a high ranking without erasing the difference between surviving a battle and winning it.

9. Tengen Uzui
The former Sound Hashira combines exceptional physical strength with paired Nichirin cleavers, explosives, poison resistance, and Musical Score, a technique that lets him read an opponent’s rhythm. He helps defeat Upper Rank Six while severely injured and poisoned. That result is a major achievement, though it comes in a team fight rather than a solo victory.

Mitsuri’s unusual musculature supports strength beyond what her frame suggests, while her flexible whip-sword gives her distinctive reach and attack angles. After awakening her Mark, she holds off the strongest manifestation of Upper Rank Four, Hantengu. That is top-tier Hashira performance, even though holding an enemy back is different from defeating it alone.
11. Kanae Kocho
Kanae, the former Flower Hashira, ranks here on her Hashira standing and her fatal encounter with Upper Rank Two Doma. Her complete peak moveset is less extensively shown than those of several slayers ranked above her, so the placement relies more on her established reputation and opponent than on a fully documented sequence of top-end feats.
12. Shinobu Kocho
Shinobu cannot conventionally decapitate demons, but she turns that limitation into a different fighting approach: extreme speed, thrusting attacks, and wisteria poison. Her plan against Doma is also indispensable to his eventual defeat; it fatally weakens him for the fight that follows. Her rank reflects that decisive contribution as well as her individual technique, not conventional sword strength.
13. Kanao Tsuyuri
Kanao’s Flower Breathing skill, heightened sight, and late-battle performance put her above the other successor-generation fighters here. Her role in defeating Doma depends on Shinobu’s preparation and help from another fighter, so the victory should not be read as a straightforward solo ranking result.

Zenitsu refines Thunderclap and Flash, develops additional variations, and creates a Seventh Form of his own. He defeats Upper Rank Six Kaigaku, a rare decisive victory over an Upper Rank by a non-Hashira. His official profile confirms that he is a Corps member who is Tanjiro’s peer, and describes hearing acute enough to distinguish the sounds of people and demons. It also notes that extreme fear can make him fall asleep and become a highly perceptive fighter.
15. Inosuke Hashibira
Inosuke’s Beast Breathing, unusual joint flexibility, spatial sensitivity, and resistance to poison make him a difficult opponent to predict or incapacitate. He survives the Upper Rank Six battle and brings valuable skills to the fight, but he has less evidence of a decisive solo win against a top demon than Zenitsu.

16. Genya Shinazugawa
Genya has no conventional Breathing Style, but his ability to gain temporary demonic traits by eating demon flesh gives him unusual bursts of power. His shotgun and those temporary abilities make him particularly useful against Kokushibo. He ranks below the other late-generation fighters above because his effectiveness is situational and he depends heavily on support.
17. Jigoro Kuwajima
Jigoro’s former rank as Thunder Hashira and his role as Zenitsu’s instructor establish a high level of ability and training. Retirement leaves fewer direct peak-combat feats to compare with the modern fighters, so his placement reflects his known standing rather than a battle record as detailed as theirs.

18. Sakonji Urokodaki
Urokodaki is a former Water Hashira, a Final Selection examiner, and the trainer of both Giyu and Tanjiro. Those roles establish him as an elite swordsman and teacher. His limited direct combat appearances make it difficult to place his peak fighting ability more precisely.
19. Sabito
Sabito’s Final Selection performance shows exceptional potential: as a spirit, he tells Tanjiro that he defeated nearly every Hand Demon on Mount Fujikasane before dying. He never becomes an active Corps member or gets the chance to demonstrate a mature career, so this ranking reflects what he achieved and what that potential suggests—not an imagined later peak.
20. Makomo
Makomo is another gifted student of Urokodaki. As a spirit, she helps Tanjiro refine Total Concentration and his forms. She ranks below Sabito because her independent combat record is less extensive; her importance to Tanjiro’s training is clearer than her standing as a fighter against high-level demons.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Yoriichi stronger than Tanjiro, and can a Hashira beat him?
Yoriichi is stronger than Tanjiro on the evidence shown. Tanjiro’s final human state has a remarkable collection of endgame abilities and briefly fights Muzan, but Yoriichi’s near-solo defeat of Muzan and effortless dominance of the strongest Upper Rank give him a much greater demonstrated ceiling. No Hashira is shown approaching Yoriichi’s human-prime performance. That is a conclusion from the feats available in the story, not an official head-to-head ranking or a claim that every hypothetical matchup has a certain outcome.

Why this is not an official power ranking
The official material supports specific facts, not the full order of all 20. The official Infinity Castle character page explicitly describes Gyomei as the strongest Corps member, while official franchise copy describes the Hashira as the Corps’ highest-ranking swordsmen. Neither statement establishes a complete ranked list. The positions here are an editorial comparison of human-state feats, abilities, opponent quality, and battle circumstances. A mark, red blade, or special perception ability matters, but teamwork and matchup can change what a fighter accomplishes in a particular battle.
