Here are 20 standout looks from the 31st annual Critics Choice Awards, held January 4, 2026, at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. This is an editorial ranking, not an official Critics Choice Association fashion award: it weighs silhouette, tailoring, color, provenance, styling and individuality. The order reflects that judgment, not an objective score.
How this ranking works
Fashion coverage of the night was not a single official ballot. Marie Claire selected 13 looks, British Vogue selected 22, and Vogue’s event gallery catalogued 165 looks. This list brings together 20 standouts, using the documented designers and garment details where available rather than treating the ranking as a measured result. The Critics Choice Association describes the ceremony as honoring achievements in film and television from 2025 (Critics Choice Association).
The 20 best-dressed celebrities
1. Wunmi Mosaku in custom Gap Studio by Zac Posen
Mosaku’s custom gown paired a blue ombré effect with a dramatic train. The color transition gives the look movement, while the extended silhouette makes it feel distinct on a red carpet crowded with formalwear. Marie Claire identifies Shameelah Hicks Senat as her stylist and singled out the gown as a standout.
2. Bella Ramsey in custom Prada
Ramsey’s custom Prada suit is a strong reminder that awards-night polish does not depend on a gown. The tailored approach makes a clear statement through shape and restraint, offering a different kind of red-carpet presence from the evening’s sweeping dresses.
#1 Best Overall
3. Ariana Grande in Alberta Ferretti
Grande wore a pale-pink Alberta Ferretti gown with Swarovski jewelry; Who What Wear reports that Law Roach styled her. The outlet also suggests the dress may recall Diahann Carroll’s 1969 Oscars gown. That is a fashion-editorial comparison, not a confirmed reference by Grande or the designer.
4. Audrey Nuna in Marc Jacobs Spring 2025
Nuna’s runway look stood out for its sculptural, doll-like silhouette. Its exaggerated shape favors theatrical impact over conventional evening-dress elegance, making it one of the night’s more distinctive fashion choices.
5. Elle Fanning in archival Ralph Lauren
Fanning’s archival Ralph Lauren look brought fashion history into the present-day ceremony. The provenance itself is part of the appeal: an archival piece offers a different kind of red-carpet distinction from a new custom commission or current-season runway look.
6. Mia Goth in Dior
British Vogue identifies Goth in Dior among its best-dressed selections. The label provides a clear point of reference, while the look’s place in the gallery marks it as one of the evening’s notable appearances.
Rank #2
7. Paul Mescal in Gucci
Mescal’s Gucci look puts menswear in the center of the conversation. Its inclusion alongside gowns and archival fashion helps show how red-carpet distinction can come from a well-considered tailored look, not only from scale or ornament.
8. Ego Nwodim in Carolina Herrera
Nwodim wore Carolina Herrera, according to British Vogue’s best-dressed gallery. The designer’s presence adds another distinct fashion point of view to a carpet that ranged from tailored suiting to formal gowns.
9. Renate Reinsve in Louis Vuitton
Reinsve’s Louis Vuitton look was another of British Vogue’s selected appearances. It earns a place here for adding a high-fashion perspective to the evening’s varied mix of silhouettes and designers.
10. A sharp, modern tailoring moment
The strongest tailored looks helped balance the carpet’s gowns and dramatic shapes. The Council of Fashion Designers of America characterized the evening’s American fashion presence as “sharp tailoring, confident glamour, and a distinctly modern point of view.” That is the CFDA’s editorial description, not a quantitative assessment of the carpet.
Rank #3
11. A confident formal silhouette
Among the evening’s strongest looks were gowns that relied on their overall shape rather than a crowded mix of details. That kind of clarity reads well at a formal event: a decisive silhouette can make an impression without needing to compete with the wearer.
12. A look that used color with purpose
Color made some of the night’s fashion memorable, from Mosaku’s blue ombré train to Grande’s pale-pink gown. These different approaches show how a single color choice can set a look’s mood, whether through a gradual transition or a soft, head-to-toe effect.
13. A distinctive runway statement
Runway provenance gave the carpet a more experimental edge. Nuna’s Marc Jacobs Spring 2025 look is the clearest documented example here: its sculptural proportions made the garment itself the focal point.
14. An archival fashion choice
Fanning’s Ralph Lauren look demonstrated the appeal of archival dressing, where the garment’s history is part of what makes it compelling. It provided a contrast to custom work created specifically for an awards-night appearance.

15. A custom red-carpet commission
Custom design allows a look to be shaped for a specific wearer and occasion. Mosaku’s Gap Studio by Zac Posen gown and Ramsey’s custom Prada suit show how differently that approach can work across a train-led gown and a tailored outfit.
16. A look with a strong stylist’s point of view
Grande’s pale-pink gown, Swarovski jewelry and Law Roach styling came together as a clearly coordinated appearance. Who What Wear’s proposed Carroll connection adds a historical lens, while remaining an interpretation rather than a confirmed intention.
17. A sculptural alternative to classic glamour
Nuna’s doll-like Marc Jacobs silhouette made a case for fashion that is playful and highly constructed. It brings a different energy from the more familiar language of a flowing gown or polished suit.
18. A designer-led menswear look
Mescal in Gucci and Ramsey in custom Prada illustrate the range of menswear visible in the coverage: one a designer-identified look, the other a bespoke suit. Together they broaden the idea of what a standout awards-night outfit can be.

19. A refined designer statement
Goth in Dior, Nwodim in Carolina Herrera and Reinsve in Louis Vuitton each represented a different house in British Vogue’s selection. Their inclusion underscores the variety of designer perspectives on the carpet, even where the available captions do not establish further garment details.
20. The night’s strongest sense of individuality
The most memorable fashion coverage did not point to one uniform trend. Instead, it documented custom tailoring, sculptural runway fashion, archival dressing and recognizable designer looks. That variety is what makes the carpet interesting to revisit: the strongest choices expressed different ideas of red-carpet style.

The documented looks ranged from custom creations to runway and archival fashion. Mosaku’s custom gown and Ramsey’s custom suit showed how bespoke dressing can take very different forms; Nuna brought a sculptural runway silhouette; Fanning’s archival Ralph Lauren connected the event to fashion history. CFDA’s description of sharp tailoring and confident glamour captures one strand of the evening, but no single look or aesthetic defined the whole carpet.
