Here are 15 standout Marvel/DC crossover comics, ranked by how well they use both publishers’ characters, the strength of their storytelling and art, their historical importance, and how well they read today. This is an editorial ranking, not an official order from Marvel or DC. It includes both conventional team-ups and Amalgam’s character-fusion stories, which are a different kind of crossover.

The list covers published crossovers through October 8, 2026. DC has also listed a new Superman/Spider-Man issue for March 25, 2026, and announced a collection due September 8, 2026; those recent works are included where they fit, with the collection’s stated release date distinguished from confirmed availability.

How this ranking works

There is no publisher-issued quality ranking. The order below is subjective and weighs five things: whether both sides matter to the story, character voice and structure, art and visual clarity, historical significance, and accessibility to readers who may know only one universe. Amalgam entries are judged as fusions rather than conventional meetings between established heroes.

Marvel and DC’s official collection pages help establish which works exist and what particular collections include, but inclusion in a collection is not evidence of a quality ranking or an exhaustive list. DC’s 2024 omnibus announcement, for example, names many classic crossovers and Amalgam issues.

The 15 best Marvel/DC crossovers

1. JLA/Avengers (2003–2004)

Kurt Busiek and George Pérez make the biggest team-up feel like a story rather than a roll call. The four-issue co-publishing event brings the Justice League and Avengers into a conflict that depends on the differences between their worlds, while Pérez’s crowded, detail-rich pages reward close reading. Its scale can be daunting, but the character interactions give the spectacle a human center. DC’s catalogue identifies the series as four issues and lists a 208-page trade paperback; that listing’s $19.99 price is historical catalogue data, not a current offer. DC’s catalogue entry.

2. Marvel and DC Present Featuring the Uncanny X-Men and the New Teen Titans (1982)

This early meeting pairs two teams built around young outsiders, making the emotional link between the X-Men and the New Teen Titans more than a convenient plot device. It is a strong example of a crossover that understands both groups’ anxieties and loyalties. The work is included in Marvel’s DC/Marvel Crossover Classics Vol. 1, alongside Spider-Man/Superman and Hulk/Batman material. Marvel lists that collection’s publication date as March 6, 2002. Marvel’s catalogue entry.

3. Superman vs. the Amazing Spider-Man (1976)

The first major meeting of DC’s and Marvel’s flagship heroes has the charm and historical weight of a genuine publishing event. Superman and Spider-Man’s contrasting temperaments carry the appeal: one is a near-mythic symbol, the other a quick-witted hero with everyday concerns. As with many landmark firsts, some pacing and conventions belong to its era, but the central pairing remains immediately legible.

4. Batman/Captain America (1996)

This Elseworlds-style pairing places Batman and Captain America in a period setting that suits both heroes’ discipline and moral seriousness. Rather than relying only on the novelty of two icons sharing a page, it gives them a common cause and room to register each other’s methods. It is one of the classic crossovers listed in DC’s DC Versus Marvel Omnibus contents announcement.

5. DC Versus Marvel (1996)

The publisher-versus-publisher event turns a simple question—who would win?—into a shared-universe spectacle. Its appeal lies less in treating every matchup as definitive than in seeing the two superhero traditions collide at once. Read it as an artifact of a rare collaboration and a gateway to the Amalgam stories that followed, not as a final verdict on which universe is stronger.

6. Dark Claw Adventures (1997)

Dark Claw fuses Batman and Wolverine into one character, combining detective instincts, brooding intensity, and a fearsome physical edge. That makes this an Amalgam experiment rather than a conventional encounter between Batman and Wolverine. The premise is memorable because the merged identity creates a new hero with its own visual and tonal logic. DC’s Amalgam collection descriptions identify Dark Claw as one of the line’s fusions. 7. Superman/Fantastic Four (1999)

Superman’s solitary, symbolic role contrasts neatly with the Fantastic Four’s family dynamic. The crossover works best when it lets that difference shape the relationships rather than simply matching powers against a threat. It is also a useful entry point for readers who want a focused meeting instead of a full team-versus-team event.

8. Batman/Daredevil: King of New York (1997)

Batman and Daredevil share a nocturnal, street-level sensibility, but their cities and supporting worlds give the partnership distinct texture. This crossover’s strongest appeal is seeing two disciplined, haunted crimefighters approach danger in parallel. It is a natural pick for readers who prefer noir atmosphere and close-quarters stakes to cosmic spectacle.

9. Green Lantern/Silver Surfer: Unholy Alliances (1995)

This cosmic pairing brings together two heroes whose powers are inseparable from responsibility and self-control. The contrast between Green Lantern’s will-driven constructs and the Silver Surfer’s cosmic perspective gives the art and action a clear visual premise. It is one of the classic titles named in DC’s omnibus contents list.

10. Hulk vs. Superman (1999)

Few crossovers offer a more instantly understandable physical contrast: overwhelming strength against overwhelming strength, with different temperaments behind it. The matchup is the hook, but the story is most satisfying when it makes room for the difference between Hulk’s volatility and Superman’s restraint. DC lists the issue as Incredible Hulk vs. Superman in its omnibus contents.

11. Batman/Spider-Man (1997)

Batman’s guarded planning and Spider-Man’s improvisational humor are an effective pairing, especially in a mystery that gives each hero a different way to read a problem. Their contrast creates momentum without requiring readers to know every corner of either continuity. DC’s collection list includes this issue as well as the later Spider-Man and Batman; the titles refer to distinct crossover comics.

12. Superman and Spider-Man (2026)

DC lists DC/MARVEL: SUPERMAN/SPIDER-MAN #1 for March 25, 2026. Its catalogue description brings Clark Kent and Peter Parker together as reporters pursuing the same story and names eight original stories, with creators including Mark Waid, Jorge Jiménez, Tom King, Jim Lee, Matt Fraction, Sean Murphy, and Gail Simone. That premise foregrounds the characters’ shared work as journalists rather than treating the meeting as only a fight. The catalogue listing establishes the planned issue and its described contents; it does not by itself establish current stock or later collected-edition availability. DC’s issue listing.

13. Super Soldier (1996)

Super Soldier merges Superman and Captain America into an Amalgam hero, bringing together the symbols of hope and patriotic duty in a single character. Like the strongest fusion concepts, it is not simply a matchup with the serial numbers filed off: the merged identity offers a compact alternate mythology. DC names Super Soldier among the characters in its Amalgam collection descriptions.

14. Iron Lantern (1997)

Iron Lantern fuses Iron Man’s technological ingenuity with Green Lantern’s power-ring mythology. The combination creates an especially visual design premise: engineering and imagination become parts of the same heroic language. It is a distinct Amalgam creation, not a conventional Iron Man/Green Lantern team-up; DC identifies the character in its Amalgam collection descriptions.

15. Amazon and JLX (1996–1997)

These Amalgam concepts show how wide the fusion line could range. Amazon combines Wonder Woman and Storm, while JLX merges the Justice League and X-Men into a new team premise. They rank here as intriguing world-building rather than as a single conventional crossover story: their value is in seeing the shared creative exercise generate new identities and affiliations. DC identifies both examples in its Amalgam collection descriptions.
