The best Christmas anime depends on whether you want a holiday movie, a romance that builds to Christmas, or simply a snowy seasonal mood. This ranked list follows G2A News’s December 18, 2023 editorial order—not a measured consensus—and clarifies how central Christmas is to each pick. The ranking weighs the holiday connection, how much of a longer series you need to watch, and the mood each title offers.
How to choose a Christmas anime
“Christmas anime” can mean a feature film, a complete series, or one holiday episode within a longer show, as Men’s Health’s watchlist also illustrates. That distinction matters: some entries below deliver a self-contained Christmas story, while others use the holiday as one turning point in a larger romance or drama. The order below is G2A News’s editorial ranking, with the descriptions indicating the strength of each title’s seasonal connection.
The 10 best Christmas anime, ranked
1. Toradora! — Best for a Christmas romance arc
Ryuuji and Taiga’s complicated crushes take center stage in this romantic comedy, with Christmas arriving during a pivotal stretch of the wider series. The holiday story is an arc rather than a standalone special; Men’s Health describes it as a three-part story near the show’s midpoint. Choose it when you want Christmas to deepen an ongoing relationship story, and expect the surrounding episodes to matter. G2A News ranked it first.
2. The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya — Best Christmas-set mystery film
The SOS Brigade is preparing a Christmas party when Haruhi disappears, turning the celebration into the starting point for a feature-length mystery. Winter imagery and references to A Christmas Carol add seasonal texture. It is a movie rather than a holiday episode, but its story draws on the characters and world of the broader series, so it is a stronger fit for viewers already interested in Haruhi. G2A News places it second.

Its appeal is winter atmosphere and emotional storytelling more than a plot centered on Christmas itself. Treat it as a seasonal romance, not a direct substitute for a Christmas special. G2A News ranked it third.
4. Itsudatte My Santa! — Most directly Christmas-forward premise

Men’s Health identifies it as a 2003 film written and directed by Satoshi Kon. G2A News ranked it ninth.
10. Chocotto Sister — Best for a Santa-delivered comedy premise

What this ranking can—and cannot—tell you
G2A News’s list is an editorial ranking, not a poll or a ranking based on a published scoring system. Men’s Health makes different choices, including 5 Centimeters per Second, Yuri on Ice, Santa Company, and K-On!; that broader selection shows how far the category can extend from Christmas-centered plots to winter-set stories and individual holiday episodes. Streaming catalogs and physical-media stock vary by territory and date, and the cited lists do not establish current availability.
