That ’90s Show Part 2 recap: what to remember before Part 3
Part 2 picks up one year after the first summer. Leia spent the school year in Chicago, and she and Jay have been apart for nine months. The previous summer ended with Leia nearly kissing Nate, leaving her return to Point Place charged with unfinished business. Executive producer and showrunner Gregg Mettler described the jump this way: “We ended Part 1 in the summer of ’95 with a big love triangle cliff-hanger. And we rejoin our characters at the beginning of the summer of 1996,” Netflix Tudum.
Leia, Jay, and Nate: the near-kiss becomes a real choice
The key distinction is that Leia and Nate nearly kissed; they did not kiss. When the secret comes into the open, Leia wants to repair her relationship with Jay rather than pursue Nate. Callie Haverda, who plays Leia, described her character’s choice in TheWrap: “It was less about like, ‘Oh, no, I have to choose between these two guys,’ and rather, just like, ‘I know what I want,’”
Haverda’s explanation frames Leia’s decision as a clear preference, not simply a contest between two boys. By the end of Part 2, Leia means to be with Jay and treat Nate as a friend. That settles her immediate decision, though the fallout has consequences for the wider group.

Nate and Nikki’s relationship also takes a hit
Nate and Nikki break up amid the tensions around Leia’s return and the hidden near-kiss. A late-period pregnancy scare adds another jolt, but it turns out to be a false alarm. The episode-by-episode Netflix Life recap reports that Nate and Nikki reconnect by the finale, giving their relationship a tentative path forward rather than leaving the breakup as the final word.
Red and Kitty leave Bob in charge
Red and Kitty head to Paris for a romantic trip and leave Bob responsible for the teens. The party gets out of hand while he is supervising them, setting up the season’s household disaster. The Paris trip matters less as a travel subplot than as the reason the young group is on its own when events spiral.

The kitchen crash is Part 2’s cliffhanger
In the finale, a car driven by Sonny and Bunch crashes into the Forman kitchen. Kevin Smith plays Sonny, Leo’s son, and Jason Mewes plays Bunch; they are not playing their Clerks characters, as Netflix Tudum clarifies. Red and Kitty return to find the damage, and the crash leaves the family and friends facing immediate consequences.
