How did Damien Leone respond?
In an October 2024 IndieWire interview, reported by Yahoo, Leone said: “I don’t think it’s a funny matter, but it’s so not me that I do find it kind of hilarious.” He also defended the horror-film “final girl” trope, arguing that a woman surviving and confronting the threat gives the story particular force.

“The Final Girl is such a powerful element to these movies, and I don’t think it’s as impactful if it’s a Final Man. Men are just more reprehensible in general, and you’re already used to seeing them die [in other genres].”
These are Leone’s views about the trope and his work, not an independent assessment of the films’ impact. The Yahoo report of the IndieWire interview contains his comments.

Why does Leone point to Sienna Shaw?
Leone described Sienna as “one of the most multidimensional, powerful, and empowering final girls that we’ve seen.” He credited LaVera with giving the character humanity and strength, and made his most direct appeal this way: “People should judge my misogyny on that character.”
Sienna is central to the disagreement because the same film can invite different readings: a viewer may see her agency and survival as a powerful counterweight to the violence, while another may focus on how women are subjected to graphic violence on screen. Leone’s defense establishes his interpretation of Sienna; it does not require viewers to accept that interpretation as conclusive.

What role does Sienna play in Terrifier 3?
Terrifier 3 is the third installment and follows Sienna after her encounter with Art the Clown. A separate interview with Leone describes her trauma and survivor’s guilt as part of the story; he called her the franchise’s “heart and soul.” The film opened in UK cinemas on 11 October 2024, according to Zavvi’s interview. That UK release date does not establish release timing in other territories.

No. The reported exchange presents a disagreement, not a settled finding. Assessing the claim involves at least three separate questions: how the films depict violence against women, how much agency and narrative weight they give Sienna, and how far a director’s stated intent should shape an audience’s interpretation. The cited coverage records the complaint and Leone’s response but does not supply an agreed standard that resolves those questions.
