Damien Leone has said he redesigned the sequence after becoming dissatisfied with its first version, drawing on a historical image and building the reveal around a practical puppet that appears to be a dummy before it moves.
What inspired the Terrifier 2 bedroom scene?
Leone has described a photograph of a Jack the Ripper victim lying on a bed as a visual inspiration for the scene’s final image. In a spoiler-marked interview with Ain’t It Cool News, he said he worked backward from that image to shape a reveal: Allie’s mutilated body would look so lifeless that viewers might assume it was a dummy, then suddenly wake.

That is Leone’s account of the image and intended audience reaction, not a claim that the photograph inspired every moment of the sequence or that the scene has one definitive symbolic meaning. Leone’s Ain’t It Cool News interview discusses the effect in a spoiler section.
Why did Leone redesign the sequence?
Leone said the scene had already been in production for a couple of days when the COVID-era shutdown interrupted filming. He was unhappy with the version they had started, so during quarantine he called producer Phil Falcone and proposed starting over. In an interview with Slashfilm, he said they selected about five effects to develop, built them over months in Falcone’s basement, and returned to film the redesigned material.

The first Terrifier had made its hacksaw scene a demanding point of comparison, Leone said. He singled out the bedroom kill as a technical achievement he was proud of, describing it to Slashfilm as one of the scenes that met that challenge.
How did the Allie bedroom scene work?
A physical puppet and concealed rigging
Leone described the waking corpse as his first “really intricate articulated puppet.” Rods ran through fake walls and beneath the bed to control the body, while pumps inside the puppet made its lungs appear to breathe. The mechanism let the performers create the deliberate transition from an apparently inert figure to one that moves.

Digital work finished specific details
The sequence was not entirely practical. Visual-effects artist Josh Petrino said cables were digitally erased and described digital work on Allie’s blinking eyes. In an interview with Bloody Disgusting, Petrino explained that the crew removed rigging that would otherwise show. The most accurate description is a practical puppet and physical effects, supplemented by targeted digital cleanup and eye work.
How long did the bedroom scene take to film?
Leone’s Slashfilm account separates the original shooting from the redesign: a couple of days had been filmed before the shutdown, and the rebuilt sequence then required five additional filming days. He described the location as a freezing barn in winter. He also said the redesigned effects were developed over months before filming resumed.

Those figures describe Leone’s account of the production, not a definitive total for every shot or stage of work on the sequence. A separate report has been quoted elsewhere with a different approximate shooting duration, but its underlying article is not available to establish whether it counts the same material. Leone’s directly attributed account is the clearest basis for describing the timeline.

Leone’s comments explain the intended dummy-to-waking reveal, the historical image he cited, and the practical and digital techniques used to achieve it. They do not establish a single symbolic interpretation of Allie’s fate. Viewers can interpret the scene within the film, but that interpretation should remain distinct from the production intent Leone described.
