Jason Sudeikis is back as Ted Lasso in season 4, and Apple still bills him as the season’s star and executive producer. The season’s setup does create room for a broader ensemble: Ted begins outside coaching before returning to Richmond to lead a second-division women’s team. But neither Apple’s announcement nor co-creator Brendan Hunt’s comments establish that Sudeikis has less screen time overall.
Is Jason Sudeikis in Ted Lasso season 4?
Yes. Apple’s season-four announcement names Sudeikis as a star and executive producer, and Apple’s season page also lists him in the cast. The announcement came in January 2026.
The evidence supports his return, not a claim that he appears less. Apple has not published a season-wide comparison of his screen time or narrative prominence.
Why might season 4 feel more ensemble-focused?
Ted starts outside coaching
In a July 28, 2026 interview with TV Insider, co-creator and cast member Brendan Hunt said Ted has “taken a step back” and described the opening status quo this way: “The biggest thing is that he’s conspicuously not coaching.” Hunt places Ted in the United States, with a less stressful job and time with his son, before the opportunity to return to Richmond.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That is a meaningful change in the character’s starting point. It does not, by itself, show how much attention the season gives Ted once the story gets underway.
A new team widens the story’s cast
Apple’s official premise is that Ted returns to Richmond to coach a second-division women’s football team. The announcement also lists returning cast members Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift, alongside new additions Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern and Grant Feely.

A new team and a larger set of characters make an ensemble story plausible. The cast list and premise establish the opportunity for that approach, not how the episodes distribute their attention.
Does season 4 give Sudeikis less screen time?
That remains unconfirmed. Apple identifies Sudeikis as the star, and Hunt’s interview explains Ted’s changed circumstances; neither source provides episode-by-episode screen-time figures or a comparison with earlier seasons. A reliable answer would require examining the episodes and distinguishing minutes on screen from narrative importance.

Hunt also acknowledged the time jump, saying, “On some level like, it has been time, so let’s not pretend it hasn’t.” That supports the idea that the characters return to changed circumstances. It is not evidence that supporting characters receive more screen time.

In a statement reported by the Associated Press on March 14, 2025, Sudeikis described the season’s direction this way: “In season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.” That announcement-era line signals a team-oriented theme, but does not quantify Ted’s role in the finished season.
