Team USA’s Olympic ceremony outfits have ranged from the white cowboy hat worn at Lake Placid in 1980 to Ralph Lauren’s announced winter-white look for Milano Cortina 2026. The best-documented snapshots show evolving styles, but not a complete year-by-year uniform record. Parade uniforms are also only one part of the picture: they are distinct from athletes’ competition kits and villagewear.
What counts as a Team USA Olympic outfit?
“Outfits” can refer to three different kinds of apparel: uniforms worn in opening and closing ceremony parades, villagewear athletes use away from competition, and sport-specific kits designed for events. They have different purposes, and a ceremony look should not be mistaken for what an athlete competes in. The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee’s Paris 2024 announcement treats these as separate collection categories.
Selected milestones in Team USA ceremony style
There is no complete, sourced inventory here of every Summer and Winter Games outfit. The available examples offer a selective visual history rather than a year-by-year catalog.
1936: an all-white Summer Games look
A Town & Country photo roundup describes Team USA as wearing all white at the 1936 Summer Olympics. That is an editorial observation about the images it presents, not a primary-source uniform record, and it should not be generalized to Winter Games. See the Town & Country roundup.

1980: a cowboy hat at Lake Placid
A white cowboy hat is a distinctive detail from the U.S. opening parade uniform at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. The Smithsonian’s artifact record says that Games were the first at which U.S. athletes were asked for input on clothing for the opening parade, award ceremonies, and warmups. The record establishes that athletes were asked—not that they controlled the final designs. Read the Smithsonian object record.
1988–2004: a recurring blazer-and-trousers silhouette
In its Summer Games photo roundup, Town & Country characterizes the looks from 1988 through 2004 as similar blazers, slacks, and skirts. This is a broad visual reading of selected images, not proof that every uniform in those years followed one design. View the roundup.

Paris 2024: separate looks for the ceremonies and village
Opening ceremony
Ralph Lauren’s Paris 2024 opening ceremony outfit paired a tailored, single-breasted wool blazer with red-and-white tipping and a striped Oxford shirt. Tapered jeans and suede buck shoes completed the look. Its mix of tailoring and denim was a distinct ceremony ensemble, not a competition uniform.
Closing ceremony and villagewear
The closing ceremony look was a separate design. Villagewear was another collection category; the USOPC announcement highlighted a polo made from 100% recycled cotton using NFW CLARUS technology. On June 18, 2024, the committee said the apparel and accessories were available through RalphLauren.com, TeamUSAShop.com, and stores in the United States and France. That announcement describes availability at the time; it does not establish current stock.

Milano Cortina 2026: an announced winter look
In a release published December 4, 2025, ahead of the Games, the USOPC announced a Ralph Lauren opening ceremony outfit built around a winter-white wool coat with heritage-inspired wooden toggles, a U.S.-flag intarsia wool turtleneck, and tailored wool trousers. This is the announced design, not an outfit already worn at the time of the announcement. David Lauren, Ralph Lauren Corporation’s chief branding and innovation officer, said the designers sought to honor Milan’s creative spirit while staying true to the brand’s enduring style. Read the USOPC announcement.
Who supplies Team USA’s ceremony uniforms?
For the recent Ralph Lauren era, the USOPC called Paris 2024 the brand’s “ninth time as an Official Outfitter of Team USA,” and named Ralph Lauren as outfitter for Milano Cortina 2026. These announcements establish the recent relationship; they do not mean Ralph Lauren designed every Team USA outfit throughout Olympic history. See the Paris 2024 announcement.

Why a complete year-by-year list is hard to establish
Official announcements provide detailed information about particular collections, while museum records can document individual artifacts. A broad team-history reference or photo roundup can suggest visual patterns, but neither is a complete uniform catalog. The examples above support a chronology of selected milestones—not a definitive list of every outfit by Games, season, designer, and manufacturer.
