At the center are veterinarian Maggie Chenoweth, her estranged husband James, and their children Meryl and Arlo; the Shanleys next door are drawn into the danger too. Here’s who plays the main characters, how the series relates to Robert McCammon’s novel Stinger, and where to check for streaming access.
What is Teacup about?
The series follows the Chenoweth family on a rural Georgia farm as a mysterious, dangerous threat disrupts their lives. Their neighbors, the Shanleys, and other people nearby become part of the unfolding crisis. Peacock describes the show as a mix of horror, mystery, science fiction and family drama.
The story’s core is personal as well as frightening: Maggie and James are estranged, while their children and the Shanleys’ teenage son have relationships that connect the two households before the danger escalates. The character guide below avoids later-story revelations.

How is the series related to Stinger?
Peacock identifies Teacup as based on Robert McCammon’s 1988 novel Stinger. The series is an adaptation, not a scene-by-scene retelling: Peacock’s Comic-Con report says the novel has a larger ensemble and that the show narrows its focus toward a family-centered story. That shift makes the Chenoweths and their close circle the guide to the series, rather than a promise that every book character or event appears on screen.
In Peacock’s July 2024 report, showrunner and executive producer Ian McCulloch said, “A long time ago, a producer told me that horror is all about isolation, which is one of the smartest things anybody’s ever said to me about the genre.” The setting and the tightening circle of people facing the threat fit that stated approach.

The novel behind the series
Readers curious about the source material can look for Robert McCammon’s Stinger. It is the novel Peacock names as the series’ basis; the show’s smaller ensemble and family emphasis are its own adaptation choices.
