Scott Swift will not face charges over a Sydney photographer’s allegation that Swift struck him. New South Wales police concluded their investigation with no further action, according to a statement reported by the Associated Press on 28 March 2024. The police disposition is not a court judgment, and the accounts of the encounter differ.
What did the photographer allege?
Photographer Ben McDonald alleged that Scott Swift struck him at Neutral Bay Wharf in Sydney at about 2:30 a.m. on 27 February 2024, after Taylor Swift and her father came ashore from a yacht. The reported incident followed Taylor Swift’s final Sydney concert on the Australian leg of the Eras Tour. The allegation was reported by the Associated Press on 27 February 2024; it is McDonald’s account, not an independently established finding.
How did Taylor Swift’s representative respond?
Taylor Swift’s representative offered a different account, saying: “Two individuals were aggressively pushing their way towards Taylor, grabbing at her security personnel, and threatening to throw a female staff member into the water.” The statement was reported by the Associated Press in its coverage of the allegation. It is the representative’s response, not a police finding about what happened.
What did police decide?
The NSW Police Force said: “No offences were detected, and the investigation was concluded with no further police action required.” The Associated Press reported that outcome on 28 March 2024. Police took no further action, so Scott Swift would not face charges in relation to the report.
