Taylor Swift’s red-carpet look at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards paired a yellow-green-and-black tartan Dior dress with black leather accessories—a combination that prompted fans and fashion writers to call it “Reputation”-coded. That label describes a visual association, not a confirmed message from Swift.
What Taylor Swift wore on the 2024 VMAs red carpet
Vogue identified the outfit as look 32 from Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Christian Dior Resort 2025 collection: a yellowy-green and black tartan dress with a zip-up corset top and a sweeping train, worn over black shorts. Marie Claire connected the silhouette to Dior’s Resort 2025 runway collection, presented in Scotland, and credited stylist Joseph Cassell Falconer.

Vogue reported black thigh-high leather Stuart Weitzman boots, strappy black leather gloves, a matching plaid choker and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. Marie Claire described lace-up leather gloves and black hot pants. The Independent noted bicep-length caged gloves, textured waves, smoky eye makeup and Lorraine Schwartz yellow diamond earrings surrounded by black jade. Accessory descriptions vary by outlet, so they are best read as each publication’s account rather than combined into a single exact inventory.
Why fans saw a “Reputation” connection
The look’s dark styling and green-and-black palette invited comparison with Swift’s Reputation era. Vogue characterized that era as associated with green and black and edgier fashion choices, and called the accessories “Reputation-coded.” The Independent reported that fans echoed the reading, including one post that said, “This is so Reputation core.”

That is fashion commentary and fan interpretation, not confirmation of Swift’s intent. Marie Claire reported that Swift had not commented on the outfit’s inspiration, and the reviewed coverage contains no direct explanation from Swift or Falconer. Vogue also reported that no Reputation (Taylor’s Version) announcement came that night. The outfit alone does not establish that it was an intentional Easter egg or a hint of an imminent release.

Swift changed clothes later in the ceremony. Vogue reported that she wore an asymmetrical beaded Monse dress depicting a UFO hovering over a landscape when she accepted Video of the Year. That was a separate look from the Dior tartan dress she wore on the red carpet.
