Tate McRae’s third album, So Close To What, arrived February 21, 2025, after a year shaped by touring, studio work and a broader visual vision. The 15-track pop record includes “I Know Love,” a collaboration with The Kid LAROI. Its album cycle also brought the global Miss Possessive Tour, which Sony Music Canada said had wrapped by November 2025 after more than 80 dates.

What is Tate McRae’s new album called, and when did it come out?

McRae’s third album is So Close To What, released February 21, 2025, on RCA Records. Sony Music Canada describes it as a record about self-discovery, love, nostalgia, healing and confidence, set against the uncertain stretch between where someone is and where they hope to be. The label’s release announcement also credits McRae with writing and producing alongside Ryan Tedder, Grant Boutin, Amy Allen, Julia Michaels and others.

Apple Music lists the original album at 15 songs and 42 minutes. Its track list moves through songs including “Miss possessive,” “2 hands,” “Revolving door,” “Sports car,” “It’s ok I’m ok” and “Nostalgia.” The two featured tracks are “bloodonmyhands,” with Flo Milli, and “I know love,” with The Kid LAROI.

How did touring shape the album?

Writing between stretches on the road

In a February 2025 Vogue interview, McRae said she used time away from touring to work in the studio and develop her songwriting. That interval mattered to her sense of artistic change: she could feel that she had grown as a person and writer before listeners had heard the new music. The result was a gap between her own sense of where she was creatively and the version of her that audiences were still encountering through earlier songs.

She also described the scale of a long tour to Apple Music: “Being on tour for a year feels like a million years—you’re like, ‘Holy shit, I have been gone for a lifetime,’” she said in the platform’s album feature. She explained that she learned to notice which songs and beats made her and the dancers move. That attention to physical response informed a pop record built to be felt as well as heard.

A more prominent role for fashion

The album’s visual world also expanded. McRae told Vogue, “It’s always been more about the dance or the singing, and this time, the fashion was a big part of telling the story.” She said the “Sports Car” video featured 12 couture or archival looks, making fashion a more substantial part of her creative direction than in earlier work.

What does the album sound like?

Different descriptions of the record come from different perspectives. Apple Music’s editorial feature hears dance-pop alongside 2000s R&B references, and says McRae’s mood board included Timbaland and The Neptunes. It describes “bloodonmyhands” as a Miami bass throwback and places “Purple lace bra” in a 2000s R&B/pop context. Those are the platform’s interpretations, rather than a genre statement from McRae.

The Associated Press review likewise heard early-2000s references across the 15-track pop album, singling out “Sports car,” “Purple lace bra” and “It’s ok I’m ok.” The AP called “I know love” a duet with The Kid LAROI and described its sound as contemporary romance with trappy hi-hats and a nonchalant energy. Those characterizations reflect the reviewer’s critical reading, not a neutral production credit.

Is The Kid LAROI on So Close To What?

Yes. The original album’s track list credits The Kid LAROI on “I know love,” and the collaboration remains on the expanded edition. The official credit establishes the feature; it does not by itself establish any private relationship history or autobiographical meaning for the song.

McRae also spoke to Apple Music about the value of collaboration in writing: “With music and finding perspective on situations, no one quite understands like another girl,” she said. That comment offers context for her approach to perspective in the studio, but it is not a statement about how “I know love” was made; no direct comment from The Kid LAROI about making the track appears in the cited coverage.

What was the Miss Possessive Tour, and is it still happening?

The Miss Possessive Tour was the global tour accompanying the album cycle. Sony’s February 2025 announcement planned 80 dates, with Latin American shows and festivals beginning March 18, European and UK dates in May, and North American dates starting October 3. The label named Live Nation as producer in that announcement.

It is not an active tour now: Sony Music Canada said on November 21, 2025, that the arena run had wrapped. The label reported more than 80 dates and one million tickets sold, describing stops across Latin America, Europe, the UK and North America. Those are Sony’s published figures for the completed 2025 tour, not a current schedule or an independently verified ticket count. Its November announcement marked the deluxe release and tour wrap-up.
