He told her, “Babe, you’re the Olympic champion!” Two days later, Davis-Woodhall spoke with PEOPLE about the moment and why it felt like a glimpse of their everyday support for each other.
What happened after Davis-Woodhall won Olympic gold?
The embrace came after Davis-Woodhall’s women’s long-jump final at the Paris Olympics. Woodhall was waiting for her when she ran over, and he congratulated her as they hugged. The exchange was captured on video and quickly circulated online, though the interview did not give a view or share count.
In PEOPLE’s August 10, 2024 interview, conducted at the Team USA house, Davis-Woodhall said she had not been following social media closely and did not know how widely the clip had spread: “I haven’t been on social media that much, so I don’t know how viral it’s gone!”
What did Tara Davis-Woodhall say about the viral moment?
Rather than describing the embrace as a planned celebration, Davis-Woodhall framed it as a natural expression of the couple’s relationship. She said, “Everyone’s been telling me the whole world’s been seeing it, [but] that’s just Hunter and I. He’s my biggest supporter, and I guess the whole world got to see how much he supports me.”

That perspective is the heart of the interview: a private-feeling moment of congratulations became a widely shared image, but to Davis-Woodhall it reflected the support she already knew from her husband.
How did the couple’s Olympic and Paralympic plans fit together?
At the time of the interview, Davis-Woodhall said the couple intended to return home for 13 days, then go back to Paris so Woodhall could train ahead of the Paralympics. She described that August 2024 plan this way: “We’re going to go home for 13 days, pack it up, get some more training in for Hunter, and we’re gonna be back. The party continues. It doesn’t end here.” It was a plan for that summer, not a current travel schedule.
