Cate Blanchett plays Lydia Tár, the fictional conductor at the centre of Todd Field’s 2022 drama TÁR. Noémie Merlant, Nina Hoss, Sophie Kauer, Julian Glover, Allan Corduner and Mark Strong complete the principal cast, and several supporting performers appear in smaller roles. This guide lists each performer with the character credited to them, along with the runtime and home-video details from the film’s official sources.
Principal cast and characters
The table below pairs each principal performer with the character name given in the British Film Institute’s release documentation, which is the most complete cast-to-character mapping available. Character descriptions are kept deliberately general so that the guide stays spoiler-light.

Reading the cast around Lydia Tár
Focus Features describes TÁR as a film about the changing nature of power and its impact and durability. Venice’s synopsis places Tár at the centre of the international classical-music world, where her public authority as a chief conductor shapes the people working around her. Many of the characters in the table above are defined by their proximity to that authority, so it helps to track who holds influence in each scene rather than treating the supporting names as a list of separate stories.

In a director statement published by La Biennale di Venezia, Field says:
“This script was written for one artist, Cate Blanchett. Had she said no, the film would have never seen the light of day.”

“Even so, while we were making the picture, the superhuman-skill and verisimilitude of Cate was something truly astounding to behold. She raised all boats.”
“In every possible way this is Cate’s film.”
Runtime
Two official sources give the running time, expressed in different units:

| Source | Running time as listed |
|---|---|
| Focus Features film page (2022 metadata) | 2 hours 38 minutes |
| La Biennale di Venezia, 2022 festival record | 158 minutes |
The two figures describe the same length: 158 minutes is exactly 2 hours 38 minutes, with the Focus page giving the rounded hour-and-minute form.
Name spellings
Some third-party cast pages spell Mark Strong’s character “Elliot.” This guide follows the BFI documentation, which spells the name “Eliot.” Check the spelling against the BFI notes if you are citing the character name in writing.
