Melbourne busker Tanya George performed “You’ve Got the Love” on The Voice Australia in 2021, building vocal layers live with a loop machine. All four coaches turned their chairs, and George chose Rita Ora’s team.
What happened in Tanya George’s audition?
George opened the episode with her take on Florence + The Machine’s version of “You’ve Got the Love,” according to PerthNow’s 10 August 2021 report. She used a loop machine to record and layer harmonies and backing vocals as she performed, and also beatboxed.

PerthNow reported that Rita Ora and Keith Urban turned before George began singing; Jessica Mauboy and Guy Sebastian turned later in the performance. The four-chair result and George’s choice of Team Rita were also reported by The Music and TV Blackbox, both on 11 August 2021.
Why the loop machine mattered
A loop machine, also called a vocal looper or loop station, lets a performer record a sound and play it back repeatedly while adding more parts. In George’s audition, that made it possible to build a backing texture from her own voice in real time rather than rely only on a pre-recorded backing track. The reports describe the equipment by category; they do not identify its make or model.

Looping also connects the television performance to George’s background as a Melbourne busker. Her official biography describes vocal looping as central to her sound and busking as part of her musical experience. PerthNow quoted her describing the unpredictability and openness of street performance: “When you busk anything can happen at any moment, tram bells, sirens, people yelling, there’s a vulnerability to it you put yourself in the middle of the public and you try to share what you love and what you do with anyone that walks by.”

The audition combined a familiar song with a live arrangement that George constructed herself: layered vocals, backing parts and beatboxing. Rita Ora later said, as quoted by The Music, “I really did feel like that was something I have never seen before on The Voice.” George ultimately joined Ora’s team.
