On June 14, 2024, PerthNow reported that Tammy Hembrow had addressed criticism of a wedding invitation shared online. The invitation described a wishing well as an optional alternative to a material gift and said the wedding would be child-free for guests. Hembrow said her own children would attend.
What the reported invitation said about gifts
As reproduced by PerthNow, the invitation read: “Your presence on our day is the greatest gift of all. However, if you would like to gift us something a wishing well will be at our wedding for your contribution and well wishes.” That wording presented a contribution as optional, rather than requiring guests to give cash.
In the TikTok response described by PerthNow, Hembrow defended the practice as familiar from weddings she had attended: “I think a wishing well is a pretty normal thing for people to have at a wedding,” she said, adding, “I’m pretty sure every wedding I have ever been to has had that.”
What “child-free” meant in this case
The invitation, as quoted by PerthNow, said: “Whilst we love your babies our wedding will be child free.” It also said: “Babysitting can be arranged upon request. Bubs are more than welcome to join us at the recovery party on Sunday.”

Hembrow clarified that the policy concerned guests’ children, not her own: “Of course, my children are going to be at my wedding.” She explained her preference this way: “I don’t want other people bringing their kids because let’s be real kids can be a bit full on, I want the other adults to be able to relax and enjoy themselves,”
What was reported—and what the figures mean
PerthNow reported that Hembrow’s TikTok video had reached 736,000 views by June 14, 2024; that is the view count reported at that time, not a current total. The report also attributed an estimated net worth of around A$50 million to the Australian Financial Review’s Young Rich List. That secondary estimate is not a verified current valuation, and it says nothing about the wedding’s cost or what guests were expected to give.
