PerthNow reported on May 7, 2023, that Tammy Hembrow and former partner Reece Hawkins shared a meal around their son Wolf’s eighth birthday. The same report said Matt Poole’s Instagram reply about a “new upgrade” prompted speculation about a new relationship—but Poole later said he meant a surfboard and described himself as single. The account is historical, and the underlying Instagram posts were not independently verified.
What was reported about Hembrow and Hawkins?
In its May 7, 2023 report, PerthNow said Hembrow and Hawkins had a meal together around Wolf’s eighth birthday. The report described them being seen together; it did not establish that they had rekindled their relationship.
What did Matt Poole mean by “new upgrade”?
PerthNow reported that Poole replied to an Instagram comment: “I don’t need Tinder… I’m happy with the new upgrade.” The wording led to speculation that he was referring to a romantic partner. In a later clarification quoted by the outlet, Poole said: “The joke is the new board is my upgrade and I don’t need Tinder, a dating app. Mind blown.”
PerthNow also quoted Poole saying, “I’m single and certainly not miserable.” On the account published at the time, the “upgrade” meant a new surfboard—not a confirmed new girlfriend. The original posts and their full context are not independently verified here.

Was this a reunion or a new relationship announcement?
No. The May 2023 report did not confirm a romantic reunion between Hembrow and Hawkins, nor did it confirm that Poole had a new partner. It reported a meal, an ambiguous social-media reply, and Poole’s subsequent explanation. Speculation prompted by the wording should not be treated as confirmation.
Why the headline is historical
Later coverage provides context but does not change what was reported in May 2023. In 2025, 9Now reported Hembrow’s separation from Matt Zukowski, and a Podnews episode listing dated November 10, 2025, reported Poole’s proposal to Annelyse Oatway. These later events should not be read back into the earlier story.
