In July 2020, PerthNow reported that she had identified herself on Instagram as the “taco girl”—a return to a familiar role that brought attention, but could also feel uncomfortable and repetitive. She later appeared in another Old El Paso campaign and, separately, in an advertisement for Mingle Seasoning.
Who is the “taco girl” from the Old El Paso ad?
The performer is Mia Agraviador, who appeared as a young child in an Australian Old El Paso advertisement. The spot framed a family’s choice as “soft or hard” tacos, then gave Agraviador the line “Porque no los dos?”—Spanish for “Why not both?” PerthNow reported in July 2020 that she was six when the advertisement made her recognizable. The line became the advertisement’s calling card because it turned a choice between two taco styles into an invitation to have both. Agraviador was not a fictional meme character: she was the child performer in the original commercial.
What did she post on Instagram in 2020?
On July 3, 2020, PerthNow reported that Agraviador had confirmed on Instagram that she was the “taco girl” and described her profile as identifying her that way. The report also described videos in which she enjoyed tacos and repeated the catchphrase. That is evidence of her Instagram identification at that time, not confirmation of her current profile or activity.

The same report said Agraviador could be shy and sometimes uncomfortable when people brought up the advertisement or expected her to repeat its line. The attention that kept the commercial recognizable could therefore feel less like a harmless joke to the person at its center.
How did Mia Agraviador return to Old El Paso?
Old El Paso partnered with Agraviador again for a 2022 campaign built around the Double Layer taco. The format puts a hard taco shell inside a soft tortilla, combining the two textures; coverage also described it as a way to add crunch while reducing mess. The campaign named the Old El Paso Hard ‘N Soft Taco Kit as a way to make it.

Agraviador reflected on returning to the tagline more than 15 years after the original spot: “I would have never imagined that I’d be back more than 15 years later, recreating the tagline that played such a huge role in my life – especially for a taco trend that has gone viral on TikTok!” The 2022 campaign coverage
Old El Paso Australia/New Zealand head of world foods Bronwyn Cheng explained the decision: “When we saw people having fun experimenting on socials to create the Double Layer Taco, we thought what better way to answer the age-old question, why not have both? than bringing Mia back.” B&T’s campaign report

Was the Mingle Seasoning ad another Old El Paso campaign?
No. A 2024 7NEWS report described Agraviador appearing in a separate advertisement for Mingle Seasoning’s Mexican range, featuring taco and fajita seasonings. It was a later campaign for a different brand, not another Old El Paso commercial. 7NEWS’s 2024 report

The ad’s premise is simple and easy to repeat: choose between a hard shell and a soft tortilla—or combine them. Agraviador’s later return made that original answer part of a new product idea, while her 2020 Instagram moment showed the more personal side of becoming known through a line people expect to hear again. The commercial’s afterlife belongs both to the catchphrase and to the performer who first delivered it.
