SZA released the “Drive” music video starring Ben Stiller on December 20, 2024, as a preview of SOS Deluxe: LANA. Directed by Bradley J. Calder, the video follows Stiller on a lonely nighttime drive before taking a surreal turn with SZA’s appearance near the end. NME reported the release and album connection.
What happens in SZA’s “Drive” video?
The reported opening follows Ben Stiller driving along a dark, seemingly empty road while lip-syncing to SZA’s song. The scene gives the video its solitary, late-night mood. NME’s description and ABC News’ account both describe Stiller behind the wheel.

ABC News reports that Stiller eventually gets out and dances beside the moving car. Near the end, SZA appears in bug-like prosthetics associated with the LANA artwork, and “Crybaby” begins as she appears. That transition shifts the video from a grounded night drive toward a more surreal visual finish.
Why is Ben Stiller in the video?
Stiller’s appearance is an unexpected collaboration, but the cited coverage does not establish a definitive casting backstory. It is safest to describe what the video shows rather than claim a specific reason SZA or the director chose him.
#1 Best Overall
The nighttime driving imagery echoes the song’s late-night, aimless-driving premise. That is an interpretation of the reported visuals and song, not a confirmed statement from SZA about the video’s intended meaning.
How “Drive” fits into SOS Deluxe: LANA
SZA shared the video shortly before SOS Deluxe: LANA arrived, and NME described it as a preview of the expanded album. The release connects the video’s final “Crybaby” transition to the larger LANA project rather than presenting “Drive” as a standalone short film.
