Ella Purnell plays Rhiannon Lewis in Sweetpea, Sky and STARZ’s dark comedy thriller about an overlooked newspaper worker whose imagined kill list becomes real. Nicôle Lecky plays Julia, Rhiannon’s former school bully, while Jon Pointing plays Craig, a man whose mixed signals frustrate her. This guide covers the six-part first season and separately identifies the announced season-two cast.
What is Sweetpea about?
Sky describes Sweetpea as a “coming-of-rage” story adapted from C.J. Skuse’s novel. Rhiannon is quiet and routinely overlooked at work and in her personal life. After her father dies and Julia returns to Carnsham, Rhiannon’s long-imagined violence turns real. Sky Group announced the six-part first season for the UK on 10 October 2024. Sky Group’s season-one announcement and Sky’s series page provide the premise and format.

Who is in the season-one cast?
Sky’s cast-and-characters page focuses on season one. The central conflict is shaped by Rhiannon’s history with Julia and her frustration with people around her at work and in her romantic life.
| Character | Actor | Role in the story |
|---|---|---|
| Rhiannon Lewis | Ella Purnell | A quiet worker at the local newspaper who feels unseen and keeps an imagined list of people who have wronged her. Her father’s death and Julia’s return coincide with her first killing. |
| Julia Blenkingsopp | Nicôle Lecky | Rhiannon’s former school bully, who returns to Carnsham after living up North. A luxury estate agent devoted to wellness and “girlboss” mantras, she presents a polished life with fiancé Marcus that conceals private problems. |
| Craig | Jon Pointing | A man Rhiannon likes; after they have sex, he responds to her texts with emojis. |
| AJ | Calam Lynch | A key person in Rhiannon’s world. Sky’s later season-two synopsis calls him her “perfect ex,” a description of his later status rather than an opening-season premise. |
| Marina | Leah Harvey | A police officer in the story. |
| Norman | Jeremy Swift | Rhiannon’s newspaper boss, who fails to recognize her potential. |
| Jeff | Dustin Demri-Burns | A named member of the season-one ensemble. |
| Marcus | Dino Kelly | A local property developer and Julia’s fiancé; Sky’s character guide describes his charm as conditional and says Julia wants out of the marriage. |
| D.I. Diana St. John | Ingrid Oliver | A police detective and Marina’s boss. She can be scatterbrained about everyday details but is perceptive and effective at solving cases. |
Sky’s character guide uses the spelling “Nicole” for Lecky’s first name; Sky Group’s original casting announcement uses “Nicôle.” This guide follows the latter spelling. See Sky’s cast and character guide and Sky Group’s casting announcement.

Who joins the cast in season two?
Sky announced season two for November 2026. That is the announced launch timing, not a guaranteed date for every territory. Its synopsis follows Rhiannon as she deals with a promotion, a rebound romance and a copycat killer who threatens to expose her.
| Character | Actor | Announced role |
|---|---|---|
| Gabriel | Rish Shah | Rhiannon’s romantic interest. |
| Liv | Tamsin Greig | AJ’s mother. |
| Freya | Taj Atwal | Rhiannon’s new boss at the Carnsham Gazette. |
| Daisy | Jenny Walser | A new friend. |
Sky lists Jon Pointing, Jeremy Swift, Leah Harvey, Ingrid Oliver, Nitin Ganatra and Alexandra Dowling among the returning actors. The season-two announcement does not list every returning character in the summary. Details are in Sky Group’s season-two announcement and on Sky’s series page.

How does the TV series differ from the books?
The series is adapted from C.J. Skuse’s Sweetpea, but Sky says the book and television stories differ substantially in nature, some characters are expanded for the adaptation, and Rhiannon’s backstory has changed. The novel is a useful starting point for readers interested in the source material, but it is not a scene-by-scene version of the show.
Sky lists Skuse’s five novels in this order:
- Sweetpea (2017)
- In Bloom (2018)
- Dead Head (2021)
- Thorn in My Side (2023)
- The Bad Seeds (2024)
The adaptation note and book order appear on Sky’s Sweetpea page.

Sky gives the series an 18 certificate. Its stated content reasons include graphic depictions of murder, blood and gore; frequent profanity; sex with limited nudity; violence and peril; domestic violence; death, including one instance involving a pet; and depictions or discussion of mental health. Sky’s page lists season one on Sky Atlantic and NOW. Sky Group’s original announcement described distribution in the UK, Ireland, Italy and Germany, but the official pages do not establish current access in every territory.
