Simran Bhogal’s current whereabouts and occupation have not been publicly verified in the recent reporting available through August 12, 2026. Older claims about where she lived and where she worked are historical, not confirmation of her present circumstances.
What is known about Simran Bhogal’s whereabouts?
A recent report says Bhogal’s current location and occupation are unverified. It does not establish where she lives or works today. For that reason, older location or employer claims should not be presented as current facts, and unverified claims about an identity change or witness protection should not be treated as established.
What happened in the Sweet Bobby story?
In the account told by Kirat Assi, she believed she was communicating online with a man named Bobby Jandu. TIME reports that the identity was an impersonation based on a real person, Bobby Jandu. Assi eventually went to meet the real Jandu, who said he did not know her; reporting says Bhogal then admitted to the impersonation. TIME’s account describes the deception as an eight-year story, while Netflix Tudum calls it “almost a decade.” The duration is therefore best described as years-long rather than as one settled figure.
Assi has described the impact in her own words. Speaking to Netflix Tudum, she said, “People think coercive control can’t happen online, but it can.” That is her characterization of her experience, not a legal finding or an independent expert conclusion.

What was the legal outcome?
The documented outcome in the reporting cited here is civil, not a criminal conviction. TIME says Assi brought a civil action in 2020 and received compensation and a private apology in 2021. TIME also reported on October 16, 2024, that there had been no police charges or prosecution. Netflix Tudum describes Assi’s successful civil case and her hope that the criminal case would conclude; that interview does not establish a later conviction.
How did Sweet Bobby reach audiences?
The story first became public through Tortoise Media’s Sweet Bobby podcast, which Netflix Tudum dates to 2021. Netflix’s Sweet Bobby: My Catfish Nightmare is a 2024 documentary adapting the story for film. The podcast is the original audio series; the Netflix title is the documentary option for viewers who want a filmed account.

What to take away from the “where is she now?” question
The available recent reporting does not verify Bhogal’s present whereabouts or occupation. The public story instead has a documented media history—from the Tortoise podcast in 2021 to Netflix’s 2024 documentary—and a reported civil settlement, distinct from criminal prosecution. Assi has also said she wants to help create change while continuing with her life: “I will always speak, and I’m not saying no to helping create change. But I do want to live my life, too,” she told Netflix Tudum.
