Three deaths connected to Swamp People are documented in the sources covered here: Mitchell Guist died in 2012, Randy Dale Edwards in 2018, and Junior Edwards in 2025. Their records do not establish the same level of detail about cause of death. Randy and Junior were father and son, a relationship that can lead online lists to blur their separate stories.
Mitchell Guist died after falling aboard a boat in 2012
Mitchell Guist died on May 14, 2012, near Pierre Part, Louisiana. Contemporary accounts reported that he fell aboard his boat on the Intracoastal Waterway, but the initial reporting said the cause of the fall was unclear. A suspected seizure or heart attack was not established as the confirmed cause of his death. The Television Academy’s May 2012 report recounted the news and reproduced a statement from HISTORY.

In that statement, the network said: “Mitchell passed on the swamp, doing what he loved.” The Television Academy reproduced the statement; it should be attributed to HISTORY, not to a named individual.
Randy Dale Edwards died in 2018; his cause is not stated in the records
Randy Dale Edwards was born on August 21, 1983, and died on September 15, 2018, according to his Wilbert Funeral Home obituary, syndicated by Legacy. Junior Edwards’s later obituary identifies Randy as his son who had died before him.

Junior Edwards died at home in 2025 after battling colon cancer
William “Junior” Lawrence Edwards Jr. died at home on July 26, 2025, aged 61, after a battle with colon cancer, according to his Wilbert Funeral Home obituary, syndicated by The Advocate. The obituary describes him as a commercial fisherman and a Swamp People star.

What the current cast listings say about Bruce Mitchell and Glenn Guist
Bruce Mitchell
HISTORY’s current cast page lists Bruce Mitchell for season 17. That is evidence against rumors that he died, including claims based on an apparent absence from an episode. A cast listing is not, by itself, proof of every aspect of someone’s personal status.
Glenn Guist
HISTORY’s official cast page also includes Glenn Guist. The listing establishes his inclusion on that page, not a separate biographical status update.

How to read the different accounts
The available records answer “What happened?” differently for each person. Mitchell’s case is described in contemporary reporting that leaves the cause of his fall unclear; Randy’s obituary gives birth and death dates but no cause; Junior’s obituary records where and when he died and the illness he had battled. These three documented deaths are not an exhaustive count of everyone ever connected to the series.
