Sutton Foster’s husband is screenwriter Ted Griffin, whom she married in 2014. In October 2024 Foster filed for an uncontested divorce in New York County Supreme Court, according to the Los Angeles Times. The public record available in that reporting confirms the filing. It does not establish why the couple separated or whether the divorce has been finalized.
Who Ted Griffin is
Griffin is a screenwriter. The Los Angeles Times identifies Ocean’s Eleven and Rumor Has It as the films he is best known for. Us Weekly’s October 2025 retrospective on Foster also lists Prom among his credits. Those are the titles to rely on; a fuller filmography would need its own sourcing.

The filing is the only divorce-related event the reporting establishes. No later court outcome, such as a final judgment, is reported.

Foster has discussed the relationship in interviews, and Us Weekly has quoted some of those remarks. They are her own recollections and should be read that way.

Surprise dates
In a 2019 interview, as reported by Us Weekly, Foster said the couple planned surprise dates under a “can’t say no” rule. One outing she described included a Latin jazz class at Lincoln Center, a jazz set at Dizzy’s, and dinner.
The sweatpants
Foster also told Us Weekly: “I knew I was going to marry my husband when he bought me a pair of sweatpants. I still wear them and will probably keep wearing them until they turn to dust.”
Adoption
In its adoption coverage, Us Weekly quotes Foster on the path to parenthood: “Where IVF was full of disappointment and heartbreak, adoption was so clearly what was meant to be for us.” This is a personal account of her experience, not general guidance on fertility treatment or adoption.

- The reasons for the separation. None of the reporting on the filing gives a cause. Claims circulating online about why the marriage ended are not substantiated by that reporting, and this article does not repeat them.
- Statements from either party about the split. The Los Angeles Times reported that representatives had not immediately responded to its request for comment, and the reporting contains no quoted statement from Foster or Griffin about the separation.
- Finalization. The sources describe a filing. They do not confirm a final divorce decree or its date.
- Custody and financial terms. Arrangements for Emily or for property are not described in the reporting.
Anyone looking for a current legal status should check the court docket for New York County Supreme Court, since news coverage from October 2024 cannot show what has happened since.
