Joe Hunter thought he had a good chance to win Survivor 48—and expected Shauhin to vote for him. Instead, Kyle Fraser won the finale jury vote 5–2–1 over Eva Erickson and Hunter, leaving Hunter with one vote.
Which votes did Joe Hunter think he would get?
In a May 22, 2025 interview with Dalton Ross for Entertainment Weekly, republished by AOL, Hunter said he expected the jury to be “much more levelheaded” and “not as emotional.” He went into Final Tribal Council believing he had “a pretty good chance,” while recognizing that the outcome was uncertain. He particularly expected Shauhin to support him. Hunter said they had been close until the final moments, and identified Shauhin’s vote as the one that surprised him most. Hunter’s explanation was his expectation of how Shauhin would vote—not a report that Shauhin had promised him a vote.
Why did Hunter think Kyle might lose support?
Hunter thought Kyle Fraser might have alienated some jurors once they recognized Kyle’s role in the game. That was Hunter’s read before the vote was revealed; it did not turn out to predict the final tally. Kyle won 5–2–1 over Eva Erickson and Hunter, respectively, according to Reality TV World’s report on the finale vote.

How did Hunter respond to receiving one vote?
In a post-finale interview with Parade, Hunter said he had to start with himself and take responsibility for not earning more support. The report also framed Kyle’s account of controlling the game, rather than Hunter’s, as a factor that undercut Hunter’s chances. That explanation is the report’s account, not proof of every juror’s individual reasoning. Read Hunter’s post-finale interview with Parade.
