Hunter McKnight said Venus Vafa took his quietness and reluctance to discuss vote targets as stonewalling, while he thought they could connect through camp life and teasing. Their relationship worsened when he voted for her. That is Hunter’s retrospective account—not proof that Venus actually “despised” him or a definitive explanation of her motives. Venus and fellow castaway Tevin Davis described the conflict differently.
Why Hunter thought Venus was upset with him
In an Entertainment Weekly interview published April 25, 2024, after his elimination from Survivor 46, Hunter described the tension as a mismatch in how they communicated. He said he was not especially chatty and did not want to name a target before Tribal Council because he thought doing so could create divisions. He believed Venus interpreted that reserve as stonewalling.
Hunter said he had tried to build a connection through everyday camp life and saw their teasing as a “little sister, big brother” dynamic. He recalled thinking, “I think it rubbed her the wrong way,” referring to his reluctance to discuss a specific vote before Tribal Council. In describing his deteriorating relationships in the game, he said: “Venus, who despised me, and then you had Liz who was making moves against a group that we had been forming for a while.” The word “despised” was Hunter’s description of how he felt Venus regarded him.
How voting for Venus changed the relationship
Hunter said he had argued earlier for keeping Venus in the game, but later voted for her because he saw her as the easiest vote. He thought he could repair the relationship afterward. In his telling, Venus viewed his vote as a major move against her, rather than as a convenient game decision. The disagreement over the vote compounded the earlier friction around strategy and trust.

What Venus and Tevin said
Venus’s account
In a TVLine interview published May 9, 2024, Venus said she believed negative claims from other players helped turn people against her. She described an early incident in which she stepped away to wash clothes; she said others took it as a sign she was looking for an idol, contributing to an impression that she was sneaky. She disputed that she had behaved chaotically or deserved the distrust, saying, “I had truly done nothing to warrant the level of hate I received from those two,” referring to Q and Tevin.
Tevin’s account
Tevin offered another perspective in an April 2024 TVLine interview. He said castaways did try to work with Venus, adding, “The reality is that we all wanted to work with her and play with her at some point, they just didn’t show it.” He also described conversations in which he felt Venus did not acknowledge how others experienced her behavior. His account, like Hunter’s and Venus’s, is a participant’s recollection; it does not settle what happened in private conversations.

The separate context of Hunter’s elimination
Hunter’s comments came after he was voted out of the Fiji-set season, which CBS lists as featuring 18 castaways in its official Survivor episode guide. He said he entered Tribal Council expecting to play his hidden immunity idol, then held it after trying to work out whether the votes might split between him and Q Burdette. In a separate Parade post-elimination interview, he said the heated exchange between Tiffany and Q influenced how he read the situation. He later characterized his decision not to play the idol as a bad read. That episode context helps explain the timing of the interview, but Hunter’s explanation of the Venus conflict centered on communication, perceived trust, and his vote against her.
