The May 2025 trailer for James Gunn’s Superman offered new footage of the Man of Steel, Lex Luthor, and several of the film’s other DC characters—but it was not the first official look at Lex or Guy Gardner. DC’s December 2024 teaser had already introduced Nicholas Hoult as Luthor and Nathan Fillion as Gardner. The later trailer added a closer look at the Engineer, Martha Kent, and a stadium fight.
Which characters appeared in the first official teaser?
DC’s December 20, 2024 teaser was billed as the first official look at Clark Kent and also showed Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner. That makes the teaser—not the May trailer—the source of the first official footage of those two characters. DC’s teaser breakdown also noted Gardner’s distinctive bowl cut. Near the teaser’s end, a strange, malevolent-looking orb appears; the breakdown does not establish what it is.
The film stars David Corenswet as Superman and Clark Kent, Hoult as Luthor, and Fillion as Gardner. Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane, Isabela Merced plays Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi plays Mister Terrific. DC’s film page lists these characters among the movie’s ensemble.
What did the May 2025 trailer add?
In its May 14, 2025 trailer breakdown, DC highlighted footage that expanded on what the teaser had shown rather than introducing Luthor and Gardner for the first time. The trailer offered more of the fight at a stadium, including Mister Terrific, and continued glimpses of Luthor. It also gave viewers a first good look at the Engineer and her powers, as well as the first official trailer look at Neva Howell as Martha Kent. DC’s trailer breakdown discusses those moments.
