The land opened on December 11, 2024, as an expansion of Super Nintendo World; USJ said it increased the existing area’s size by 70%. Here’s what the jungle setting and ride involve—and what to check before planning a visit.
What is Donkey Kong Country at Universal Studios Japan?
Donkey Kong Country is a themed expansion inside Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan (USJ) in Osaka. It recreates locations from the Donkey Kong games as a tropical jungle, with the Golden Temple as a central landmark. The temple’s interior mural builds anticipation for the ride, while the surrounding area offers activities, character encounters, food and merchandise. USJ described the expansion as a 70% increase in the size of its existing Super Nintendo World area—not a 70% increase in the park overall. USJ’s November 2024 announcement introduced the expansion ahead of its December 11 opening.
What is Mine Cart Madness like?
Mine Cart Madness is the land’s headline attraction. Its story has riders joining Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong to protect the Golden Banana from the Tiki Tak Tribe. The ride launches from a barrel cannon at the Golden Temple and travels through jungle scenery, with splashing water and an apparent jump across collapsed track.
The track-jump effect is an illusion created by the ride’s design: the mine cart appears to leap a gap rather than making a literal, unsupported jump. In its 2024 announcement, Universal Creative producer Daniel Greer called the coaster design “new and innovative” and said it would make riders “seemingly jump over gaps.” That is the operator’s description, not an independent industry ranking. USJ’s current attraction page describes the experience and publishes its current rider guidance.

Ride length, vehicle and height rules
USJ lists the experience at approximately two minutes, with four people per vehicle in two rows of two. Its current page says riders must be at least 122 cm tall to ride alone, or at least 107 cm tall when accompanied by a supervising companion. The opening announcement gave the 107 cm minimum and required a chaperone for riders between 107 and 122 cm; for a visit, follow the current attraction page rather than relying on the historical opening details. Restrictions can change.
What else can you do in the land?
The coaster is only one part of the experience. Donkey Kong Country includes a full-body play experience, a chance to meet Donkey Kong, and a jungle environment built around the Golden Temple. Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo Representative Director and Fellow, said at the December 11, 2024 opening that visitors could find gameplay and design details throughout the land, including an activity involving Rambi the rhinoceros, and described it as a place for the whole family.

USJ’s current Donkey Kong Country directory lists Jungle Beat Shakes, the Funky’s Fly ’n’ Buy shop, Mine Cart Madness and Donkey Kong photo opportunities. Food, merchandise, character appearances and attraction operations may vary.
How do you get into Donkey Kong Country?
Access is not guaranteed by a standard park admission ticket alone. USJ says an area-entry ticket may be required depending on conditions; options can include advance-booked Area Timed Entry or same-day Area Timed Entry and Standby Entry tickets. The current area page says that, from January 5, 2026, guests need the official USJ app to obtain same-day timed-entry or standby-entry tickets. Check the live area-entry guidance close to your visit, since procedures and availability can change.

Is this the same Donkey Kong Country as the one in Orlando?
No. This article covers the original Donkey Kong Country, which opened at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka on December 11, 2024. Donkey Kong Country also appears in Super Nintendo World at Universal Epic Universe in Orlando, whose announced opening date was May 22, 2025. The existence of both versions does not establish that their ride layouts, height limits, capacities or entry procedures are identical. The USJ ride specifications and app-based entry guidance above apply to the Osaka park; check Nintendo’s USJ area preview for destination context, and consult Universal Orlando’s current visitor information for Orlando-specific rules. Universal Orlando’s 2024 preview described Power-Up Band play at Epic Universe, but it is not a current visitor guide.
