At Super Bowl LX in 2026, a 30-second ad slot averaged a reported $8 million, and a handful sold for more than $10 million, according to NBCUniversal executive Peter Lazarus as quoted by the Associated Press. Those figures describe airtime—not the full cost of making and promoting a campaign. AI was a visible theme, but brands used it in different ways: to sell AI services and devices, and, in one case, to help make a commercial.
How much did a 30-second Super Bowl ad cost?
Peter Lazarus, NBCUniversal’s executive vice president for sports and Olympics advertising and partnerships, told the Associated Press that 30-second Super Bowl LX spots averaged $8 million, with a handful priced above $10 million. These are reported prices for airtime. They do not establish what advertisers spent in total on production, talent, or other campaign activity. Associated Press
How widespread was AI in Super Bowl LX advertising?
AI was a conspicuous advertising theme, not a demonstrated feature of most commercials. Axios reported that tech and AI companies were the strongest category for advertising growth, quoting Lazarus, and counted 16 technology advertisers in its snapshot of national in-game linear ads released or teased by February 5, 2026. That is a dated snapshot, not a final count of every campaign that aired. No comprehensive, independently validated count establishes what share of all Super Bowl LX ads featured AI. Axios
The broader commercial mix also included food and drink, health and telehealth, consumer technology, and entertainment. The Associated Press identified AI and technology as trends among several, rather than the sole subject of the game’s advertising. Associated Press

Which Super Bowl LX ads featured AI?
The examples show several distinct roles for AI: an advertised assistant or service, a physical product with AI features, and AI-assisted production. Campaign descriptions below are reported by the Associated Press and iSpot; they establish what the ads presented, not independent proof of product performance or campaign success.
| Advertiser | What the campaign presented | AI’s role |
|---|---|---|
| Anthropic | Ads positioned Claude as a chatbot without ads, in contrast with OpenAI’s stated plan to place ads on free and cheaper ChatGPT versions. | AI service and competitive positioning |
| Amazon | Chris Hemsworth imagined how Amazon’s Alexa+ chatbot could hurt him. | AI assistant promotion |
| A mother and son imagined a new house using Google Photos and AI tools. | Consumer-facing AI assistance | |
| Wix | Wix presented an AI-assisted process for creating a business website. | AI-enabled service |
| Genspark | The company showcased productivity tools. | AI-enabled service |
| Oakley Meta | Two 30-second placements promoted Performance AI Glasses, with talent including Spike Lee, iShowSpeed, Marshawn Lynch, and Olympians; one message invited viewers to say, “Hey Meta, record this.” | AI-enabled physical product |
| Svedka | iSpot described the vodka brand’s commercial as AI-assisted and produced alongside AI agency Silverside. | AI in commercial production |

What did the advertising say about AI’s role?
AI as the product
Claude, Alexa+, Wix Harmony, and Genspark were presented as AI services or tools. The creative approaches varied: Amazon used a comic scenario, Google showed a family imagining a home, and Wix emphasized a process for creating a business website. Those examples make AI feel less like a single category of product than a capability brands are attaching to different everyday tasks.
AI in a physical product
Oakley Meta’s glasses offered a more tangible demonstration: the campaign showed voice-activated capture through the prompt “Hey Meta, record this.” It was an ad for AI-enabled eyewear, rather than an AI company selling a standalone assistant. iSpot describes two placements and the campaign’s celebrity and athlete lineup. iSpot

AI in the making of an ad
Svedka illustrates a separate story. iSpot described its commercial as AI-assisted and produced alongside Silverside. That is evidence about the reported production approach, not an ad selling an AI product. It also does not establish a “first-ever” milestone. iSpot
What do the numbers show about the wider ad business?
Axios reported figures from XR Extreme Reach showing celebrity talent spending reached $253 million in 2025, up from 2020, and that 61% of total ads featured celebrities. Those figures describe celebrity use and spending, not AI advertising specifically. They help explain why AI-themed spots appeared in a familiar Super Bowl format: high-profile talent and entertainment remained part of the broader advertising picture. Axios

Super Bowl advertising also commonly aims for a light tone. Before the game, Villanova marketing professor Charles Taylor told AP he expected brands to avoid dark or divisive themes and offer viewers an escape. That was his forecast about tone, not a measured finding about every commercial that aired. Associated Press

One reported example came from delivery platform Gopuff. The company said Kinder Bueno unit sales on its platform rose 100% in the hour after the commercial compared with the preceding hour. Gopuff separately reported that all-day Sunday sales were 444% higher than its average for the previous five Sundays. These are different comparisons based on Gopuff’s own order data; neither establishes market-wide impact or proves the commercial caused the change. Gopuff, February 9, 2026
