Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX is a Gundam series produced jointly by Sunrise and Studio Khara, the studio associated with Evangelion. Its December 4, 2024 announcement introduced three characters—Amate Yuzuriha, known as Machu, Nyaan and Shuuji Ito—and the GQuuuuuuX mobile suit. The project is a joint production, not Sunrise’s first Gundam anime.
What the first look revealed
The official announcement named Amate Yuzuriha (Machu), Nyaan and Shuuji Ito, and showed the GQuuuuuuX, the mobile suit associated with the protagonist. Those details establish the announced characters and central mecha; the announcement alone does not support adding further plot points.
Why Sunrise and Studio Khara’s pairing matters
Sunrise is the long-standing Gundam studio, while Studio Khara is known for Evangelion. GQuuuuuuX brings the two together on a Gundam production. Bandai Namco Holdings later described the project as an unusual joint production for both companies. Calling it Sunrise’s “debut Gundam anime” would be misleading: the notable debut is the studios’ collaboration on this series.
How the theatrical preview relates to the series
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- was a theatrical presentation assembled by re-editing material from the TV series, rather than a wholly separate story. Its release dates differed by territory:
