These promotions are organized by individual authors and communities, not one central schedule. To find free books, check the relevant organizer’s live event page, choose a listed retailer, and confirm each book’s price in that store before claiming it.
Is Stuff Your Kindle Day happening on October 24, 2026?
A specific event for that date could not be verified. “Stuff Your Kindle Day” is commonly used for a range of community-run ebook promotions, and different genres may have separate organizers and schedules. A date mentioned in an old post or roundup is not confirmation that an event is currently running.
Start with the Stuff Your Kindle event index, then follow the current page for the genre or event you want. Check that page for the date and live book list. For example, Romance Bookworms’ page displayed an August 10, 2026 event date; that listing is not evidence of an October 24 event.
How to find and claim free books
- Choose an event. Use the event index as a directory, then open the specific organizer’s current page. Event lists and details can change.
- Browse the titles. Some organizers let you browse by category or retailer. Follow the link for the individual book you want rather than relying on a copied list.
- Select a compatible store. Depending on the event, books may be offered through Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, Barnes & Noble Nook, Kobo, or Google Play. Not every event includes every retailer.
- Check the store’s listing before claiming. Confirm that the individual title is marked free at the destination store at that moment. Prices and availability can differ by store, country, account, or over time.
- Claim the book through the store. Use the store’s normal checkout or acquisition process, then read it in a compatible app or device.
Are the books really free?
A book is free to claim only if its destination-store listing shows a zero price when you claim it. Organizer pages are useful directories, but listings can become outdated and prices can change. The Crime Fiction Book Club’s Crime Edition page warns that listed prices may be inaccurate and that Amazon prices can change without an author’s knowledge. If a listing is no longer free, do not complete a paid purchase unless you want to buy it.

Amazon’s KDP Free Book Promotion has specific rules for authors using that tool: the Kindle ebook must be enrolled in KDP Select, and the promotion allows up to five free promotional days during each 90-day enrollment period. Amazon says a Kindle ebook can take up to 24 hours to transition between free and paid lists. Those rules describe Amazon’s KDP promotion tool; they do not establish how every event or retailer handles free books.
Do you need a Kindle device or a subscription?
No Kindle device is established as a requirement. These are ebook promotions, and organizers may link to stores beyond Amazon, including Apple Books, Nook, Kobo, and Google Play. You can read a claimed ebook using a compatible app or device for the store you chose. The cited event pages do not establish a paid subscription as a requirement either; follow the retailer’s own listing and checkout instructions.

Why are there different Stuff Your Kindle events?
The phrase refers to author-organized and community-submitted promotions rather than a single centrally scheduled event. The index traces the first event to romance author Zoe York on December 26, 2014, describing it as featuring more than 60 titles from 35 authors. That is a historical count for the first event, not a current total or a count for October 24, 2026.
Events can focus on different genres and use different retailer lists. Romance Bookworms, for example, offers a curated collection of free romance ebooks with retailer choices, while the Crime Edition organizer describes a collaborative event with books on most major retailers. Check the specific organizer’s page for the details that apply to its event.
