To get free books on Feb. 28, find the current event page from the organizer, choose a book and retailer, then confirm the retailer still shows a free price immediately before claiming it. “Stuff Your Kindle Day” is an informal name for independently organized ebook promotions—not a single Amazon event. The sources available do not establish a Feb. 28 event for a particular year or host, so check a live organizer announcement rather than treating the date as confirmed.
What is Stuff Your Kindle Day?
“Stuff Your Kindle Day” colloquially refers to a free ebook blast marketing event, typically hosted by indie authors, according to the Stuff Your Kindle event archive. These promotions are community-driven and independently organized; there is no single central schedule that covers every event.
The first event took place on Dec. 26, 2014, organized by romance author Zoe York. The organizer’s history page reports that it featured “more than 60 titles submitted by 35 authors,” made free together as a post-Christmas gift to readers. The original Romance Bookworms event is one part of a wider collection of independent Stuff Your Kindle-style promotions.
Is there a Stuff Your Kindle event on Feb. 28?
The date alone does not identify an event: it lacks a year and organizer, and the sources do not confirm a Feb. 28 promotion. The organizer’s history page explains that these events are independently run and that submitted details can change. Its archive and the other event pages reviewed do not establish a Feb. 28 event. Check the host’s current event page and announcement for the specific year before planning around the date.

For context, Romance Bookworms displays an event dated Aug. 10, 2026, but that listing does not confirm a Feb. 28 event. An event page for one date is not a schedule for all organizers.
How to find and claim a free ebook
- Find the organizer’s current event page. Start with the host’s live schedule or event list, not an old roundup or a search result. Details can change, and different organizers run their own promotions.
- Browse by genre or category. Some event pages group titles by niche; the Crime Edition organizer, for example, provides category and content filters. Check the book information and any content notes before choosing.
- Select a retailer that works for you. Romance Bookworms lists Kindle, Apple Books, Nook, Kobo, and Google Play options. A retailer link is not a guarantee that a title is offered there in every country.
- Open the retailer’s own listing. Check the displayed price and availability on that page immediately before claiming the ebook. The Crime Edition organizer warns that author-submitted information can be inaccurate and that Amazon prices may change.
- Claim it only if the current listing says it is free. If the retailer shows a price, the book is unavailable, or the details do not match the event page, do not assume the promotion is still active; check another retailer link or return to the organizer’s updated list.
Do you need a Kindle?
No. The event name is colloquial, and a Kindle e-reader is optional. The Crime Edition organizer says the event “isn’t exclusive to a single device and includes books found on most major retailers.” Romance Bookworms’ retailer choices include Apple Books, Nook, Kobo, and Google Play as well as Kindle.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why can a book’s price differ from the event page?
An organizer’s listing points you toward a promotion; the retailer’s current listing determines what you can claim at that moment. Prices and book details can change, and submitted listings may contain errors. That is why checking the retailer page just before claiming matters more than relying on an earlier event page, a saved link, or a search snippet.

Amazon’s Free Book Promotion is one way a Kindle ebook can be made free, but it is not the mechanism behind every event listing. Amazon says a publisher must enroll the title in KDP Select and make it available for sale on Amazon to run this promotion. KDP allows up to five promotion days in each 90-day KDP Select enrollment period; scheduled promotions usually begin at midnight Pacific time. Those Amazon-specific conditions do not apply to books listed through other retailers.
Amazon instructs authors to confirm that a promotion is running as expected. For readers, the practical check is still the live retailer price: an older organizer page cannot guarantee a current free listing.
