If a StreamYard broadcast to YouTube stays on “preparing,” first confirm that StreamYard is connected to the intended YouTube channel and has the permissions it needs. Then check whether YouTube live streaming is enabled and work through browser, device, and network checks. StreamYard’s reviewed help pages do not define this exact “preparing” status or confirm one fix for it, so treat the steps below as troubleshooting—not a guaranteed resolution.
Start by identifying where “preparing” appears
Before changing settings, note whether the message appears in StreamYard or YouTube, whether you scheduled the broadcast in StreamYard or created it directly in YouTube, which channel is selected, and whether the same thing happens on another attempt. These details help distinguish a destination or authorization problem from a browser or connection issue; they do not, by themselves, identify the cause.
Check the YouTube channel and its authorization
- Confirm the selected account and channel. Make sure the Google account connected to StreamYard is the one associated with the intended YouTube channel. If the account has access to more than one channel, verify that StreamYard is using the right one.
- Confirm your channel role. StreamYard says the connected user must own the channel or be a manager or owner of a Brand Account. It also says YouTube Studio/Channel Permissions currently support live streaming only for the owner.
- Review Google authorization. The authorization should include “Manage your YouTube account.” If you are unsure whether the right account, channel, or permission is in use, reconnect the intended YouTube channel and check the authorization prompts carefully. See StreamYard’s YouTube channel connection guide.
Make sure YouTube live streaming is enabled
If live streaming was only just enabled for the channel, StreamYard says YouTube may take up to 24 hours to activate it. If it is already enabled, check again that StreamYard is connected to the correct channel. If YouTube displays a restriction message, review the channel’s YouTube dashboard; StreamYard notes that a restriction may be associated with a Community Guidelines violation. Its YouTube connection error guide covers related connection and start errors, but not a specific diagnosis for “preparing.”
Work through browser, device, and network checks
StreamYard lists the following steps for a generic YouTube connection or start error. Its help page does not establish that any one of them fixes the exact “preparing” state. Try them one at a time and retest after each change:

- Refresh the page and confirm that your internet connection is working.
- Close and relaunch the browser.
- Restart your computer.
- Check your network speed and whether the connection is stable.
- Try StreamYard in a private or incognito browser window.
- Clear the browser’s cache and cookies.
- Temporarily disable browser extensions that could affect pages, then retry.
- Check whether a firewall, proxy, or VPN is interfering with the connection.
For more context on these general checks, use StreamYard’s troubleshooting page for YouTube errors.
Test the broadcast without going public
A safe test can help you learn whether the problem occurs in the live workflow, but it will not prove why “preparing” appeared. StreamYard recommends testing with a private YouTube broadcast. An unlisted broadcast is another option if you need to share the test link with a particular person. You can also make a StreamYard recording without sending it to a destination to test the session without streaming to YouTube. See How to Test a Live Stream.

If it still will not start, contact StreamYard support
If the status persists after those checks, use the “Submit a request” option on StreamYard’s YouTube error help page. Include the exact status or error wording, the selected channel, whether the broadcast was created in StreamYard or YouTube, what you have already tried, and approximately when the failure occurred. The reviewed official guidance does not identify the source of this exact status or confirm a service incident, so support may need those specifics to investigate your case.
For a YouTube-created broadcast: custom RTMP is a separate route
If you already created the broadcast in YouTube, StreamYard documents connecting to it with YouTube’s RTMP URL and stream key through a custom RTMP destination. This requires a paid StreamYard plan. It is a separate way to connect to a YouTube-created stream, not a verified fix for a broadcast stuck on “preparing.” StreamYard says YouTube comments will not appear in its studio on this route, and you must enter the studio and click “Go Live” manually. Follow StreamYard’s guide to connecting an existing YouTube Live Stream if this setup applies to you.

Or let it run in the cloud
If your broader goal is to keep an uploaded video looping as a 24/7 YouTube stream, rather than fix a live StreamYard session, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service made for that use. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running without a computer or home connection staying on. Video streams as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. This is for uploaded videos streamed to YouTube, not camera broadcasts. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.
