If your YouTube stream keeps buffering in Streamlabs Mobile, open Main menu → Streaming Settings → Video Settings and lower Max Bitrate. Test again, then reduce resolution or frame rate if needed. The right setting depends on the upload capacity your phone can sustain—not just the speed shown in a single test.
Lower Max Bitrate in Streamlabs Mobile
- Open the Streamlabs Mobile app and its main menu.
- Choose Streaming Settings, then Video Settings.
- Find Max Bitrate and lower it. Make a measured change, then test the stream before lowering it again.
- If the stream still buffers, return to Video Settings and lower the output resolution or frame rate as well.
Streamlabs documents this shared route for iOS and Android; nearby controls and labels can differ between the platforms, and app screens may change. If your screen does not match, look for the Video Settings section for your operating system in Streamlabs’ mobile streaming guide.
Choose a bitrate your connection can sustain
Bitrate is the amount of video data sent each second. If your connection cannot sustain the configured output, lowering Max Bitrate can help. But there is no universal setting for every phone or mobile connection: signal quality can change, and other people or devices may share the network.
YouTube’s published H.264 encoder guidance gives these reference values. They are not Streamlabs presets, and they do not guarantee that a particular mobile connection will stream smoothly.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
| Output | YouTube H.264 minimum | YouTube H.264 recommended |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
These figures are from YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance; the page does not state a publication year. YouTube lists different recommendations for AV1 and H.265/HEVC, so do not apply the H.264 values as if they covered every codec. Compare the guidance for your output with the outbound upload capacity available where you are streaming.
Check the connection and output, not only bitrate
- Test outbound upload capacity. A speed test is a snapshot, not a guarantee that the connection will stay consistent throughout a live stream. YouTube advises allowing headroom: its mobile filming guidance describes upload capacity as primary bitrate plus backup bitrate plus 20%. If other users or devices share the network, your available share may be lower.
- Check signal strength and consistency. A fluctuating mobile signal can interrupt delivery even when a test briefly shows adequate upload speed. YouTube’s live filming tips cover mobile-network considerations.
- Reduce resolution or frame rate. If lowering Max Bitrate is not enough, sending a smaller or less frequent video output can reduce the data required. Choose an output that remains clear enough for the content.
- Consider latency as a separate factor. YouTube notes, “Lower latency may mean more playback buffering.” That can be one factor, but it does not establish that latency causes every buffering problem. See Manage live stream settings.
Test before relying on the change
Run a test using audio and movement similar to the real stream—for example, camera movement or changing scenery if the documentary stream includes it. Watch YouTube’s stream health and any messages while testing, rather than judging only by how playback looks on the phone. YouTube recommends testing with representative content and monitoring stream health in its encoder guidance.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Common problems and fixes
| What you notice | What to check or change |
|---|---|
| Buffering continues after lowering Max Bitrate | Test upload capacity and its consistency; check signal and network sharing. Then lower resolution or frame rate and test again. |
| The stream works at one location but buffers elsewhere | Mobile upload capacity can vary with signal and network load. Recheck the connection at the streaming location and adjust output to what it can sustain. |
| YouTube’s recommended bitrate seems higher than your connection can handle | Treat YouTube’s values as encoder guidance, not a promise of smooth delivery. Lower the output or bitrate and verify stream health in a representative test. |
| Viewers report buffering even though the encoder appears to be sending | Review YouTube stream health and latency settings. Lower latency can mean more playback buffering, but it is only one possible factor. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a pre-recorded documentary playing live on YouTube around the clock, StreamNeo is a different option from mobile broadcasting: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams what you upload at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera. See StreamNeo, or start the free day.
