If Streamlabs’ installed Desktop Chatbot is not working, first check whether you are using that Windows-only legacy app or the separate dashboard-based Cloudbot. For Cloudbot, troubleshoot connection and moderator permissions before commands and timers. For the legacy app, verify its channel connection and command settings; its launch advice dates to 2017 and may no longer match current Windows guidance.
First, identify which Streamlabs chatbot you mean
Streamlabs documents two distinct products: the installed legacy Desktop Chatbot and Cloudbot, which is configured through the Streamlabs dashboard. The legacy FAQ describes Desktop Chatbot as Windows-only; it points Linux and Mac users to Cloudbot instead. Their screens and troubleshooting steps are not interchangeable. Streamlabs’ Cloudbot guide covers Twitch, YouTube, and Kick.
| Chatbot | Where you set it up | Platform or system note |
|---|---|---|
| Legacy Desktop Chatbot | Installed Windows application | Streamlabs’ legacy FAQ says Windows-only; the FAQ was originally published in 2017. Source |
| Cloudbot | Streamlabs dashboard | The cited setup guide covers Twitch, YouTube, and Kick. Source |
Set up Cloudbot
- Open the Streamlabs dashboard and enable Cloudbot for the platform you want it to serve.
- Give it moderator permissions in the channel. On Twitch and Kick, Streamlabs’ guide says to type
/mod Streamlabsin chat. For YouTube, add Streamlabs as a moderator through YouTube Studio settings. - Configure commands or features in the dashboard. The guide covers default and custom commands, moderation tools, loyalty, and modules.
These steps describe Cloudbot, not the legacy installed application. See the official Cloudbot setup guide for the dashboard workflow.
Cloudbot is not joining chat or responding
- Confirm it is enabled for the right platform and has moderator permissions in the target channel.
- Check the viewer list. If the bot is not visible there, resolve the connection or permission issue before changing individual commands.
- Test at least one command. If the bot is present but silent, use a known working command or a simple test command to narrow down whether the issue is command configuration.
- For YouTube, make the stream public. Streamlabs says a YouTube stream must be public for Cloudbot to join and trigger commands.
- If needed, restart Cloudbot. Streamlabs’ guide says to turn it off, wait 2–10 minutes, then turn it back on. This is a documented troubleshooting step, not a guarantee of recovery.
These checks follow Streamlabs’ Cloudbot troubleshooting guide.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Cloudbot commands do not work
- Make sure the command is enabled, then check its spelling and syntax.
- Try a default command or a simple test command without permission restrictions. This helps distinguish a bot connection issue from a command-specific setting.
- Review the command’s permission requirements, cooldown, and any points cost. A command may be working as configured but unavailable to the person testing it.
For Cloudbot, Streamlabs recommends checking these settings in its troubleshooting guide.
Cloudbot timers do not post
- Confirm the timer is enabled.
- Check both its time interval and its minimum chat-line requirement. A timer configured with a line minimum will not post until the threshold is met.
- Streamlabs says that when a line minimum is set, only the most recent five minutes of chat count toward it.
Those conditions are described in the Cloudbot troubleshooting guide.

Legacy Desktop Chatbot: commands, timers, and channel output
The following steps come from Streamlabs’ legacy FAQ. Its interface and version context may have changed, so labels or behavior may differ in a current installation.
A command fails
- Check the command’s usage destination, permission requirement, cooldown, and points cost.
- A broadcaster cooldown exception applies only to the broadcaster, not to everyone else testing the command.
- The FAQ says restarting the bot clears cooldowns; use that only as a troubleshooting step if the command settings themselves are correct.
A timer does not post
The legacy FAQ says the stream must be live and the bot connected to Streamlabs for timers to run. Confirm both conditions as well as the timer configuration.

Messages appear in the bot console but not in stream chat
Streamlabs’ legacy FAQ says the bot may be connected to the wrong channel. Open Connections, open the bot connection, and compare its streamer channel with the channel actually being streamed. Correct the connection if the names do not match.
These legacy behaviors are covered in the Desktop Chatbot FAQ.

Legacy Desktop Chatbot crashes or will not launch
Streamlabs’ legacy FAQ, originally published in 2017, mentions Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables as a dependency and lists administrator privileges, Windows Defender history, and MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner among possible troubleshooting areas. Because this advice is old, do not treat it as current Windows repair guidance: verify present-day Microsoft and Windows instructions before installing runtimes, changing security settings, or altering third-party software. The old FAQ is available at Streamlabs’ Desktop Chatbot FAQ.
Keep a YouTube video stream running without leaving a PC on
Chatbot troubleshooting is separate from keeping a YouTube stream online. If your goal is a 24/7 YouTube stream made from uploaded videos, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not stream from a camera or to other platforms.
