Netflix Tudum published the first five minutes of Stranger Things Season 5’s premiere, “The Crawl,” on November 7, 2025. The excerpt debuted during a virtual watch party and is an opening-scene preview—not a separate full-length trailer. It is now a past release; Netflix’s full series is streaming on Netflix, though regional access may vary.
Where to watch the five-minute preview
Find the clip in Netflix Tudum’s article about the first five minutes of Season 5, which Netflix labels a sneak peek. The footage was published on November 7, 2025, after debuting at a virtual watch party. It is the opening excerpt from “The Crawl,” the season premiere; it is not a separate, full-length trailer.
What happens in the “The Crawl” sneak peek?
Spoilers for the opening scene: Netflix’s account says the footage returns to 1983, after Will Byers disappears. In the Upside Down, Will takes shelter in a makeshift fort, hears a cracking sound and runs from a Demogorgon. The creature drags him to Vecna’s lair, where Vecna speaks to him and uses a vine to overpower him.
How the opening scene connects to Season 5
The excerpt revisits Will’s disappearance in 1983; the season’s main story is set in fall 1987. Netflix’s official Season 5 synopsis describes Hawkins as scarred by the Rifts. The group is trying to find and kill Vecna, while the government has placed Hawkins under military quarantine and is hunting Eleven.

The opening scene also points back to questions raised by the series’ mythology. In the preview article, Netflix attributes this comment to co-creator Ross Duffer: “The last remaining questions that are answered in that document, we’ve punted a couple of those to have some big reveals in Season 5.” He adds: “And that’s really going to affect what Season 5 is about.”
Season 5’s pace and release format
Ross Duffer described the season’s pace in the same Tudum article: “But in this case, this season is sprinting from the start.” Matt Duffer characterized the characters’ changed circumstances: “Nothing in Hawkins is normal anymore…their movement is restricted, and there are Big Brother cameras everywhere. So not only are they active — their everyday, normal lives are anything but.”
