The first official Stranger Things season 5 teaser covered a lot of danger in a few quick images, but it did not reveal enough to settle theories about what would happen next. It launched on July 16, 2025, at 7 a.m. Pacific, 10 a.m. Eastern and 3 p.m. British Summer Time. Season 5 is now complete: Netflix said on January 1, 2026, that the finale and every other episode were streaming.
When did the Stranger Things season 5 teaser launch?
Netflix announced the teaser on July 15, 2025, and it arrived the following day at 7 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. ET / 3 p.m. BST, according to TechRadar’s live coverage. Some fans had hoped it would appear on July 15, the anniversary of the first season’s release, but that was a reported expectation, not a universal view.
What footage had viewers already seen?
The July 16 teaser was not the first season 5 footage. Netflix had previously released a brief date-announcement clip. TechRadar described that earlier clip as about 20 seconds long; that runtime should not be attributed to the July 16 teaser.
The date-announcement clip offered brief glimpses: Joyce with an axe, Karen holding Holly, Lucas visiting Max in hospital, Steve and Dustin among Upside Down tendrils, a visibly distressed Eleven, soldiers facing a rift, and Will shouting “Run!” These are images from a short montage, not evidence that confirms a character’s fate or a particular plot outcome. TechRadar’s account captures how little time the clip gave each moment.

What did the July teaser actually tell us?
Its strength was atmosphere: familiar characters appeared to be facing danger, and the quick cuts invited speculation. Its limits mattered just as much. The footage did not explain the circumstances behind those images or establish what happened next. Treating a glimpse as a plot answer would go beyond what the teaser showed.
Netflix’s fuller story context arrived later, so it should not be read back into every image from July. In its official season 5 coverage, Netflix set the story in fall 1987, with Hawkins under military quarantine, Vecna missing, and the group trying to find and kill him.

How did the full trailer add context?
Netflix released a fuller trailer in October, separate from the July teaser. Co-creator Ross Duffer described the season as starting amid the disorder left by the heroes’ defeat at the end of season 4: “I think what’s unique about this season is that it starts a little bit in chaos because our heroes ultimately lost at the end of Season 4,” he told Netflix Tudum. He added, “But in this case, this season is sprinting from the start.” The later trailer supplied more of the season’s urgent setup; it was not part of the July launch.
How was season 5 released, and is it streaming now?
Netflix announced a three-part US release, with each installment scheduled for 5 p.m. Pacific. International calendar dates can vary by time zone.
