The eight-episode season has since been released in full: Netflix reported on January 1, 2026, that every episode was streaming.
What happens in the Stranger Things 5 trailer?
The trailer sets up a Hawkins still reeling from the rifts that opened at the end of Season 4. The final season begins in fall 1987. The friends want to find and kill Vecna, but he has vanished, leaving his plans unknown.
Hawkins is under military quarantine, movement is restricted, and surveillance cameras reinforce how closely the town is being watched. The government is also hunting Eleven, who has been forced into hiding. Netflix’s official synopsis adds a personal reminder of the crisis: as the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, the group feels a familiar dread and must stand together for the final battle.
Those details describe the season’s official setup. The trailer is a promotional preview, so its images and mood should not be treated as confirmation that every shot depicts a literal sequence of events.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Why are the stakes so high?
The danger is both immediate and uncertain: the rifts have scarred Hawkins, Vecna is missing, and the characters do not know what he is planning. At the same time, quarantine and the search for Eleven constrain the people trying to respond. The trailer’s urgency comes from that combination of a looming threat and reduced freedom of movement.
Co-creator Ross Duffer described the opening as beginning “a little bit in chaos” because the heroes “ultimately lost at the end of Season 4.” Co-creator Matt Duffer put the changed setting simply: “Nothing in Hawkins is normal anymore.” Executive producer Shawn Levy said the action and visual effects are “next level,” while the emotional center remains the same. These comments, published by Netflix Tudum, frame the season’s tone; they do not reveal specific plot outcomes.
