Stevie Ray reportedly said that Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags of the Nasty Boys struck Matt Damon in the chest at a Holiday Inn bar in the early 1990s, after taking Damon’s villainous role in School Ties personally. It is a story attributed to Ray in a 2017 report—not an independently verified account of the incident.
What Stevie Ray reportedly said happened
In an October 31, 2017 report, Fightful attributed the anecdote to Ray’s podcast, Stand Up For Greatness. Ray’s account placed the encounter after a wrestling show, while he, Haku, and the Nasty Boys were staying at a Holiday Inn. They were in the lobby before heading to college clubs when Ray noticed a man working behind the bar. Knobbs asked him whether he knew the bartender; Ray said it was Damon.
According to the report, the wrestlers connected Damon with his antagonist character in the 1992 film School Ties. Ray was quoted as saying, “It’s only a movie but Sags and Knobbs are taking it for real.” Fightful then reported Ray’s description of Knobbs hitting Damon in the chest, followed by Sags striking him too. Ray also reportedly recalled later talking with Damon about whether Morgan Freeman or Wesley Snipes was the better actor. That detail belongs to the same recollection; it does not independently verify the alleged blows.

What Booker T added—and what he did not
In a February 27, 2026 report, Wrestlezone said Booker T called the story true, while also saying he could not remember where it happened and did not know exactly what took place. His stated basis was that his brother Stevie Ray had been there. That is reported secondhand corroboration of Ray’s story, not an independent account from someone who witnessed the incident. Read Wrestlezone’s report.
FandomWire also reported Booker T’s remarks in June 2023, including his uncertainty about the location and particulars. It is another report of Booker’s statement, rather than a separate eyewitness source. Read FandomWire’s account.

The reports place the story in the early 1990s at a Holiday Inn after a wrestling show, but do not give a city or exact date. The original podcast recording was not verified, and the available reporting does not independently establish that Damon was struck or confirm the precise sequence of events. The careful description is therefore that Ray reportedly recounted the encounter and Booker T later reportedly endorsed the story with qualifications—not that the incident has been independently proven.
