Stevie Nicks said Fleetwood Mac could not be put back together without Christine McVie, who died in 2022. In a 2024 interview with MOJO, Nicks called a reunion impossible without her longtime bandmate. She also raised a separate concern about whether Lindsey Buckingham could manage the group’s demanding tours. Later headlines about the Buckingham Nicks album and a rumored 2025 performance did not announce a Fleetwood Mac reunion.
What did Stevie Nicks say about a Fleetwood Mac reunion?
Speaking to MOJO in 2024, Nicks said: “There is no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together in any way. Without her, it just couldn’t work.” She was referring to Christine McVie, the singer and keyboardist who died in 2022.

Nicks described McVie’s death as sudden and said she had wanted to visit her but never got the chance to say goodbye. That grief was central to her answer: her objection was not simply a matter of tension with another band member. For Nicks, McVie’s absence meant Fleetwood Mac could not be restored as the band she knew.
Did Nicks also discuss Lindsey Buckingham?
Yes. Nicks separately questioned whether Buckingham could take on Fleetwood Mac’s long touring schedule. She said, “Even if I thought I could work with Lindsey again, he’s had some health problems,” and said she was unsure he could manage the kind of touring the band does, which she described as lasting a year and a half. She added that it was not for her to say. These were Nicks’s qualified comments, not an independent assessment of Buckingham’s health or a separate announcement from him.

What happened to Fleetwood Mac after McVie and Buckingham left?
The band had spent much of 1998 to 2014 operating without McVie, according to the summary of Nicks’s MOJO interview. Her absence then placed more of the fronting burden on Nicks and Buckingham together. That earlier period does not negate Nicks’s later statement about the band after McVie’s death.
Buckingham left Fleetwood Mac in 2018. The group toured in 2018–19 with Mike Campbell and Neil Finn covering his live roles. Fleetwood Mac last played together in November 2019, according to Rolling Stone and The Guardian.

Did Fleetwood Mac reunite in 2025?
No confirmed reunion appears in the cited reports. In September 2025, The Guardian reported that a band representative denied a story claiming Fleetwood Mac would perform at a birthday event. The representative called it “categorically false” and “not in the realm of true.” That denial addressed the specific event story; it does not prove that a reunion could never happen in the future.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does the Buckingham Nicks album reissue mean they are getting back together?
No. The 2025 news concerned Buckingham Nicks, the duo album Nicks and Buckingham released in 1973, not a Fleetwood Mac performance or reunion. The Associated Press reported that the album was reissued on vinyl and CD, remastered from the original analog master tapes. An archival release by the duo is distinct from activity by Fleetwood Mac as a band.

For readers asking “Will Fleetwood Mac reunite?” or “Is Fleetwood Mac having a reunion?”, the clearest answer is that Nicks said no in 2024 because she could not imagine the band without McVie. The latest cited development, in 2025, was the band’s denial of one reported performance—not an announcement of new plans.

- Fleetwood Mac - Rumours Live. Previously unreleased live show, pressed on 2-LP 180-gram vinyl, and recorded at The Fabulous Forum in Los Angeles on the Rumours Tour on August 29, 1977. The concert’s setlist draws almost exclusively from Fleetwood Mac and Rumours, the first two albums recorded by the band’s latest incarnation: Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, and Christine McVie, and the newest members, Stevie Nicks, and Lindsey Buckingham. The lone nod to Fleetwood Mac’s other nine studio albums is a performance of “Oh Well,” a rock-guitar masterpiece originally released in 1969 and written by the band’s founder, guitarist Peter Green.
