What Steven Tyler performed at the 2025 VMAs
Tyler and Aerosmith bandmate Joe Perry joined YUNGBLUD and guitarist Nuno Bettencourt for a medley honoring Ozzy Osbourne. MTV’s official performance video identifies the songs as “Crazy Train,” “Changes” and “Mama, I’m Coming Home.” Watch the performance on MTV’s official channel.

When the tribute took place
The 2025 MTV VMAs were held on September 7, 2025. Paramount announced the tribute lineup ahead of the ceremony, and the musicians performed during the televised awards show.
Why the appearance drew attention
Aerosmith had announced it would stop touring after Tyler sustained a vocal-cord injury. The Los Angeles Times described the VMAs appearance as Tyler’s televised return more than a year after that announcement. The distinction matters: the announcement concerned touring, not a permanent retirement from every kind of performance.

Was this an Aerosmith touring comeback?
No. The documented event was a special awards-show tribute featuring Tyler and Perry alongside YUNGBLUD and Bettencourt. The available coverage does not report that Aerosmith resumed touring, so the VMAs performance should not be described as a tour comeback.
