Yes—Chris Evans is returning as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel’s first teaser, released online on December 23, 2025, shows Rogers arriving at a home, looking at his old Captain America uniform and holding an infant. Its closing card states: “Steve Rogers will return for ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’” The footage confirms his return, but does not reveal the child’s identity or explain his role in the story.
What the first teaser shows
The 90-second teaser follows Rogers as he rides a motorcycle up to a house. He looks at his former Captain America uniform, then appears smiling while holding an infant. Good Morning America also describes him wearing a wedding band; that visual detail, like the farmhouse setting described in coverage, does not establish a specific backstory. The teaser ends with the return announcement.

What Steve Rogers’ return means for the story
Rogers’ last appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was Avengers: Endgame. After returning the Infinity Stones, he chose to go back in time and live with Peggy Carter. He later passed the Captain America shield and mantle to Sam Wilson. The teaser establishes that Rogers will appear in Doomsday; it does not say that Wilson is no longer Captain America or explain how the two characters’ stories intersect.

Avengers: Doomsday release dates by market
Release dates vary by territory and by the date of the source. Disney’s U.S. movie page lists Avengers: Doomsday for December 18, 2026, exclusively in theaters. Disney UK’s July 20, 2026 press release says it will release in UK cinemas on December 16, 2026. The Guardian’s December 23, 2025 report listed December 17, 2026 for Australia and December 18 for the UK and U.S.; those earlier dates should not be treated as a single worldwide date. Check the current local Disney listing for the market you plan to watch in.
Disney’s July 2026 UK announcement also describes a new trailer and poster, names Anthony and Joe Russo as directors, and says heroes from three distinct universes face an existential threat. Those later details provide broader film context, but do not clarify the infant or Rogers’ specific plot role.
